I use film exclusively. Compared to digital, I feel I get better depth in my images and also more details in the shadowy and higlighted areas... but, there are disadvantages as compared with some of the digital camera features... like not having to wait for the film to be developed to SEE the image(s) just taken, and also that you can change the ISO number from one photo to another (and not so with film; you'd have to use another camera or change film mid-roll), and the fact that memory cards are REALLY dropping in prices (and instead of saving the images on a computer that might crash or a CD that might get defective and lose everything, or get scratched or simply need to be or backed up...). The only disadvantage is really the issue of not being able to see the image right away. Insofar as cameras, I find that film cameras are more solidly built and are sturdier and last longer. Still, I love my cameras where dust is not a major issue (or problem) with sensors that attract and draw dust to it).

As far as I am concerned film is still the best medium as digital cameras still do not have enough resolution to match it yet, unless you spend a lot of money.
I have a Cannon SLR and am lucky as all my lenses will fit on the digital camera body I consider good enough to take the same quality pictures as I get now. However the best price at the moment for just the body is around £700 so I shall wait a bit till it is more affordable.
Of course digital is great for downloading and editing and has no developing costs.
If you are really interested in photography and want sharp pictures but cannot afford a decent Digital SLR I would suggest to stick for now with film. However a digital camera would still be useful to learn how to take good photo's, without the cost of film.Remember, take as many pictures as you can.It is the only way you will start to get some good ones.
