will i be able to use my australian account and password to communicate back to australia and read emails etc using same password

You definitely can. All you need to do is to get into your email website and log in as normal from there on. The WWW connection is the same, practically anywhere once you are inside the network.

It really depends on your email provider, whether they allow you to check your email over the web. Check before you go.
