I am a Christian and I love the Lord. I feel that I do not need to search through the Bible and be studious because I feel that this will lead me to be set apart from my brothers and sisters (you), and this is not where God wants me. I feel like religion is a man-made thing and it only sets us apart. I feel that if I treat everyone with respect and have no enemies, and love man-kind, that this will be pleasing to God. Am I wrong?

Ken D. , I have a basic knowledge of the Bible, as I was raised under these circumstances. However, I do not FEEL the need to gain a GREATER knowledge. I feel that the knowledge I have is enough for now, until I meet my God face to face. For now I want to focus on finding things I have in common with my fellow man, not different beliefs. And I take these Yahoo Answer thumbs down with a grain of salt. You have to.

a lot of times religious people are segregated from non believers because they feel that people like me think i'm perfect and better. it's far from the truth. i'm probably the biggest religious screwup i know. yet i love the Lord and i know that he loves me and forgives me for what i do. and i pray to him constantly to forgive me for my sins. i tell this to my friends alot. i know religious people who don't believe certain stuff in the bible because they feel that it's a man-written rule. ya gotta understand that the bible is a reference tool written by man but inspired by God's Word. and i capitalize Word because God's Word is absolute. it is important to study it and learn from it. God does want you to bond with your brothers and sisters. but he also want you to learn more about him. in learning more about him you will become closer to him. the more i read about him and what he inspired in the bible, the more he touches my heart. i won't say you or anyone answering this is wrong, because the bible has taught me that it's not my place to tell you whether you all are right or wrong. it's my place to encourage you to study. you don't have to push your teachings on your friends, the book also teaches it's not your place to force God's teachings on another. let others know that God loves them from time to time and that he's watching over them. let them know that you thank God everyday that they are your friends. it's not forcing them and they may not see it instantly but eventually they will start to notice that there is some power in God's love. i love you all and i'm praying for you all. God bless.

Religion is made in a way where we can learn about God better. If you love the Lord you'd want to know more about Him. In the Bible, His words of encouragement are there. His Word is your strength and will be your sword to fight of evil against you. Also, further understanding it helps you focus on the love of the Lord for everyone. It will please God but the Bible gives direction.:) God bLess

I'm not sure why you would think that reading the Bible would set you apart from other Christians.Sttudying the Word is very important.
No,we do not need to go overboard withsilly disagreements over trivial matters, but faith in Jesus we do need, and being a good person will not save you.
.We all need to spread the Gospel,as that is a commandment given by Jesus Himself. It is a great disservice to tell others that they are going to heaven if they love mankind and if they are a good person.
Jesus is the only way to heaven, and good works will not save us.

WOW....you love the LORD yet you do not feel you need to read HIS word? If you were married and had to be separated from your spouse for a few years and got a letter once a week, how do you think your spouse would feel if you told him/her that you loved them so much you did not think you needed to READ their letters to you?
The BIBLE is God's word to us. It is His instructions to do all of those things you say you want to do.
Oh yea.....that have no enemies part.....forget it. IF we do follow Jesus...we WILL have enemies. Jesus even told us that my friend. Just look at all the thumbs down those that follow Jesus get in Y/A and I am sure this post will have several within a short time.

I disagree. Studying the scriptures is the only way to grow in your knowledge of the Lord and to further your walk with Him. Not doing this will cause further separation with your brothers and sisters in Christ.
If you read the Bible you would know that Satan is your enemy.
Religion, the rites and rituals and dogmas, is restriction and it is man-made. But a relationship with our Lord requires your understanding of His word.

Are these requests or commands?
1. "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
2. "Forsake ye not the assembling of yourselves."
I once felt as you do, and was too spiritual to study or participate in church. Now I know better. The more you study the more you find out about God, and the more you can love God. And if you claim to believe in God, then it is very important how much you love God, agree?

You're wrong in saying that reading the Bible will somehow set you apart from other believers.
You're wrong in saying that God does not want you to read the Bible, otherwise, why would he go to so much trouble to make sure it's preserved?
But you're right about trying to respect others. You really can't go wrong there.
