He waves at the people from his bedroom window. He is washed and dressed by his merry mens. He sits upon his thrown and waves his hand in religious incantations. He also does some travel. However, he is trying to clean up the mess left by the last pope-pee.

"But since it would take too long to set out here the successions of all the churches, we shall turn to that great, ancient and universally known church founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles Peter and Paul, and we shall show that the tradition it has received of the apostles and the faith that it preaches to men has come down to our time through the regular succession of its bishops; and thus we shall confute all those who, in whatever way, whether by self-complacency, vainglory, blindness or error, enter into unauthorized assemblies. For it is with this Roman church, by reason of its more powerful pre-eminence that every other church, that is to say all the faithful everywhere, ought to agree, inasmuch as in this church the apostolic tradition has been preserved continuously by those who come from everywhere." St. Irenaeus ("Against All Heresies," c. 180 A.D.)
Throughout the Acts of the Apostles, St. Peter is clearly the leader of the Christian community (Acts 1:15, 5:1-10). And again, he is listed first among the Apostles in the New Testament (Matthew 10:2; Mark 3:16-19; Luke 6:13-14). Before St. Peter was crucified, he appointed St. Linus as his successor. Why should this practice not be carried on to the present day? There is an unbroken line of Popes from St. Peter down to the present-day Pope. The Papacy is the oldest institution in the Western World. How could it have survived 2000 years without the grace of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit?
The purpose of the Vatican is to oversee the affairs of the Roman Catholic Church -- that should be simple enough. And, since religious issues often intertwine with political issues, the church does take a stand on certain things that involve how people's lives are lived.
Whether the Vatican is unnecessary is a matter of personal opinion. Since the Catholic Church is organized on a worldwide basis, it does need some kind of an overseeing body. It is not a for-profit organization, and it does redistribute the wealth. I didn't know about any banking system, but if the Catholic Church organizes its wealth more efficiently by having its own banking system, why not?
People believe in this organization because of its sound theological doctrine, dogma, and of course its history and claims to be the one true church. If the Vatican is that corrupt, and not blessed by God, then shouldn't it have failed a very long time ago?
Whether Jesus was rich or poor is not at all a prerequisite for the church. And, the church is about spreading the good news, not accumulating wealth

Actually his role is merely superficial and ceremonial. A friend told me that pope is the proud owner of the hand that dignitaries kiss. For me, I would be scared to kiss his hand. Nobody knows where that hand has been. The papal bathroom may not have facilities to was the hands since the Vatican is so old. Maybe he is supposed to wave at the crowds and wave his hand with the normal pope gesturing..

Pope claims to be the representative of holy Christ.Since holy Christ was assigned to provide guidance to the Jews and recllect the scattered flock of Israel; Pope can do only the same, if he can establish himself to be a true successor of the holy Christ. However, if he has undertaken any assignment without a proclaimed manadate from Christ or God;it is merely wastage of time on his part and befooling the christain folk.

As the Vicar of Christ on earth, the Pope has the responsibility guiding over 1 billion Catholics in spiritual truth,He issues encyclicals on Catholic teaching and pronounces on matters of faith.
Among his titles he is the Bishop of Rome, sucessor of Peter, Supreme Pontiff of the universal church, Patriarch of the west, Primate of all Italy, and many others.
The Pope does not ever receive a salary while in office, nor can he have a bank account.

Nope do not accept that, the only power is the Divine no man has that right to it.

It is another image problem. The pope is so holy and remote to most common people. His importance has made him isolated inside his holy residence. I mean, if he is not supposed to lead and change people, it is all right for him to be secluded.

The Catholic Church teaches that when Christ placed Peter at the head of the Twelve, the first bishops..
The Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock.
The Pope, Peter's successor, is the perpetual and visible source and foundation of the unity both of the bishops and of the whole company of the faithful.
For the Pope, by reason of his office as Vicar of Christ, and as pastor of the entire Church has full, supreme, and universal power over the whole Church, a power which he can always exercise unhindered.
The Pope’s main roles include teaching, sanctifying, and governing.
With love in Christ.
