My girlfriend does that. I just hit her over the head with a rolled up paper.

It's natural for a dog to roll around in places, especially if another dog pooed there or peed there. They like to get their scent there so other dogs can smell them. Or maybe you're dog really likes pooh.

Your dog is hidding his own sent. Animals do this when hunting so the prey won't smell them. I know your dog doesn't track down his own food and kill it, but he has some instincts there that tell him he needs to hide his sent.

Tell him "NO", I'm sure you do..... and maybe try to change his sent for him before a walk. I know more about why they do it then how to help, but you could try rubbing a fabric softener sheet on his back before going out and see if that is enough to keep him happy.

Suggest you choose not to worry about it, the dog has evolved that way over the last 30,000 years for survival reasons (hide their own smell maybe)unless you want to UNevolve the poor pooch.all the best to the dog.

To your dog, pooh is a lovely, beautiful thing. He is making himself smell good to impress other dogs. Its a bit like us using perfume!

The reason being, is that when he discovers the pooh, there is a possability that it was excreted by a female, thus the scent which she lets out when on heat traces of this scent was on the pooh.

my dog does too, esp fox poo and it stinks...i think they are marking their territory, ie covering the poo smell with their own smell, my dog rolls in dead mice too, u gotta check him before he does it, ul see the signs..sniffing then stretching out and falling to the side...get a whistle and when u see the signs blow it and shout NO
