Lets start with quotes from the "heavenly" Ha'diths and the "ocean of knowledge", Qu'ran.

(Al-Hadis, Vol. 3, p. 137) Abu Sayeed al-Khodri reported that Mohammed was talking to a group of women when he said, "... I see the majority of you will go to Hell." The women asked why, to which Mohammed responded, "You often curse and are ungrateful to your companions." He then told them they had a basic defect in their nature, to which they responded, "How?" Mohammed answered, "Is not the attestation (knowledge and witness) of a women only worth half of a man's? And that is on account of her short intelligence."

This quote really brings out Mohammed's "shining" views on women. He automatically condemns the majority of them to hell. According to him a woman's intellectual capacity is only half that of a man and that is why two women are required as witnesses as compared to one man.

He was so scared of women's intelligence that he said, "a man should not walk between two women"

I'm not Arabic or a woman, so I'll give you quote from Brigitte Gabriel, a woman who was born and raised in Lebanon, in her book, "Because they Hate". She compares the way Israelis and Muslims treat women:

"As days passed, I became more disgusted with my culture. I began to compare my place as a female in Lebanese society to that of females in Israeli society. I recall a day when my cousin's husband, Shahine, came to drive my mother to the hospital, since we did not have a car. I was determined that I was going to have a good day. I was wearing a pair of shorts that Lea [an Israeli nurse] had given me, with a matching T-shirt and sandals. I felt beautiful, loved, and privileged to have met people like her. When Shahine walked through the door, I welcomed him with a big smile and told him how much we appreciated his help in driving us to the hospital. I asked him if he would like a cup of coffee before we left, and he said, 'No thank you. I have to get going.'

"I called my mother, who was already dressed, and informed him that we were ready. He looked at me with shock and said, 'Aren't you going to get dressed?'

"I said, 'Oh no, I don't feel like dressing up today. We're only going to the hospital. This is cool and comfortable.'

"'I think you should go change.' He said it like an order.

"I said, 'No, I am comfortable, I am not going to change.'

"' I will not drive you to the hospital looking like a sl ut. Go put something on that will cover your legs.'

"My mother intervened at that moment and asked me to go change. I said, 'No way. If you don't like how I am dressed, you go to the hospital by yourself. I dont' think I look like a sl ut. I wore this for three weeks In Israel. Nobody treated me like a sl ut.'

"Shahine screamed, 'This is not Israel, this is Lebanon! If they don't have any morality over there, we have some.'

"This supposedly educated, not religious, middle-aged Arab man, and a family man at that, had decided I was not worthy of respect just because I wore shorts that showed half of my legs. Rather than worry about important things like my education, my values, my intellect, my character, and what I was going to accomplish in life, he was concerned with ancient tribal ideas of our family's honor, which depended on my sexual propriety..." (p. 88-89)

Did you know this was said about girls/women in the Bible?

"The birth of a daughter is a loss" (Ecclesiasticus 22:3).

"Your daughter is headstrong? Keep a sharp look-out that she does not make you the laughing stock of your enemies, the talk of the town, the object of common gossip, and put you to public shame" (Ecclesiasticus 42:11).

"Keep a headstrong daughter under firm control, or she will abuse any indulgence she receives. Keep a strict watch on her shameless eye, do not be surprised if she disgraces you" (Ecclesiasticus 26:10-11).

Conveniently Christian Scholars decided to remove this book, Ecclesisaticus, from the Bible.

Conclusion: NO religion is perfect. Get over it.

I don't know how true what you say is, and I don't care to research it, but if it is true, that dude was seriously messed up. I do pretty well making a living for my family as a database programmer, basically, but I know my wife is smarter than me. She is a stay at home mom, but I am certain she is smarter than me. I know a lot of smart women.

I think what that Mohammed feller was saying was that women cannot be trusted. Don't walk between two of them because they are smart enough to kill you and get rid of your body.

Again, enemies of Islam say that Muhammad degraded women; but western scholars have known for a long time that the Qur'án grants to women rights which no previous religion had given them; to prove this, you have only to compare the texts of the various Faiths. Furthermore, the Qur'án gives the sexes full spiritual equality: "Verily the Muslims of either sex, and the true believers of either sex, and the devout men and the devout women, and the men of truth, and the women of truth, and the patient men and the patient women, 27 and the humble men and the humble women, and the men who give alms and the women who give alms, and the men who fast and the women who fast, and the chaste men and the chaste women, and the men and the women who oft remember God: for them hath God prepared forgiveness and a rich recompense. (33:35).

Actually.. women are highly regarded in Islam..
In 1 Hadith, the Prophet says: Heaven is at the Foot of your Mother...

Women in Islam had more rights than many other women in other religions.

They had a right to own property.. inherit from their fathers... a right to education... work...

Men aren't allowed to touch us with the intention of harming us.. and by touch i literally mean touch.. Prophet Muhammad actually referred to an example of the tip of a toothpick.. or a twig..

So there u have it...

CJ, you are committed to spreading hate about Islam, but i shall answer your question, nonetheless.
In Islamic beliefs, no one has taken the responsibility of the authenticity of Hadith; the general opinion is that Sahi Bukhari and Muslim are supposed to be authentic books on the subject but there is no covenant.
The Quran, on the otherhand is protected by God Himself in Islamic beliefs.
If you want to analyze Islam's view of women, let me assure you it has nothing to do with supression or forcing them to stay home. I am married to a lady who has a masters in economics in addition to a masters in economic development (and serves as a lecturer and economist) and ALL of my peers (male of female) are educated and employed.
The problem is, you are committed to proving that Islam belittles women, and here I am, a man born and raised in Pakistan, an Islamic country.
I do not see women belittled and beaten in educated households; and if I am to do that to my wife, I'd have my head knocked off my shoulders.
Look beyond the veil and refrain from spreading hatred, please.
Cheers and God bless.

"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience...and if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for woman to speak in the church" (1 Corinthians 14:34-35)?

"Keep a headstrong daughter under firm control, or she will abuse any indulgence she receives. Keep a strict watch on her shameless eye, do not be surprised if she disgraces you" (Eccl. 26:10-11)

If a man rapes an unbetrothed virgin, he must pay her father 50 shekels of silver and then marry her. Deuteronomy 22:28

And read following for the 'treatment' of woman in your scripture !! and see who is treating the worse !
Genesis 3:16
Ephesians 5:22-24
1 Peter 3:7
Leviticus 19 & 20
Numbers 30:13
Deuteronomy 24

Do you want more from your religion about treating woman??

Man ! first look at yours own religion and then point others !!

Edit :

And i m not going to defend my religion for your question , i know you don't need it, .....asking a question to understand something and for letting the other religions down is totally different and your questions stands in second categary ! Ahh but i know its realy difficult to give respect to others.......because positivity is soo rare in this world !

ALL WOMEN ARE SUPPRESSED BY RELIGION. EVEN CHRISTIANITY HAS KEPT WOMEN SUPPRESSED BY TELLING THEM IN THE BIBLE THEY MUST BE SILENT ETC. THIS IS WORLD-WIDE HOW MANY WOMEN HAVE BEEN PRESIDENTS IN THE U.S.A. ? HOW MANY WOMEN HAVE BEEN POPES ? RELIGION IS ( MAN ) MADE MORE WAYS THAN ONE. ITS NOT AN EXACT STUDY, IF IT WAS THERE WOULDNT BE SO MANY OF THEM. RELIGIONS DIVIDE PEOPLE MORE WAYS THAN ONE. THAT IS, THEY CAUSE DIVISION AND WAR AND ALL OF THEM HAVE A HISTORY OF CRUELTY TOWARD WOMEN ESPECIALLY. NOWADAYS RELIGION IS GLOSSED OVER SO WOMEN FEEL MORE FREE BUT IN REALITY RELIGION HAS A HORRIBLE TRACK RECORD WHICH IS SNOWED UNDER BY ALL THE GOODY GOODY STUFF .
