Hiya, Yes one of my cat's is a house cat, he was only very small when we got him, and he had really bad fur so with it being winter he was kept in. When it came to summer and he could go out he just wouldn't go, he does venture out now and again especially when we are in the garden, but he never stays out for any length of time. We try to keep him occupied by throwing his toys and playing with bit's of wool with him, he is a really happy cat. We also have a cat that loves to be outside, and i know what you mean about cats being run over, it's really upsetting because they are part of your family, But lets face it cats do what they want to do, not what we would like them to do, and you can loose cats through illness, i have just lost one of mine he was 12yrs and he had cancer. So just play it by ear, and remember you give your cat all the love and attention it requires he will most probably decide if he wants to go out or not.... Good Luck....

If you only want one cat to keep inside that is ok just make sure it has room to rum around and plenty of thing to keep it amused, however cats do tend to have their own personalities I have a female cat that is housebound now due to an injury but she is happy inside but I am not sure whether males make good housecats or not. Maybe some other people can answer that one for you.

Really sorry to hear about your cat. My friends cat was ran over about a year ago although after vet fees running over two thousand the cat was lucky to survive. She swore she would never let the cat out again. The cat had other ideas by piddling at her door until eventually she gave in!

The main thing was your cat had a very happy life. Would you rather he lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed himself?

It's hard deciding on whether you should allow your cat to be indoor or out/ Best do what you feel happiest with.

Yes.. i have 2 cats.. the first house cat was my pedigree, because i didnt want someone to steal him.. then i saw a kitten get run over localy and had to knock on doors to tell the owner thier cat had been killed.. this was heart breaking and i decided i was definately doing the right thing.. i do not want that knock on the door.. ever! i have now got another cat who also stays in.. lots of toys and cat scratches and they are fine.. you can buy special diets for indoor cats too so they dont get too fat!!

I've got house cats. I've modified the garden so we can let them out and not have to worry about them. Generally tho they don't really wanna go out. think they just get used to a certain way of living. My cats are very happy.

When I was a kid, one of my cats was the daughter of a wild cat so she loved being outside and would really only come in to eat; but her daughter was a softy indoor cat, who only went out if she need to pee! The cat I have now is half-in half - in her element curled up on the sofa, or chasing the neighbourhood cats out of her garden. So it really does depend on the personality of the cat.

Inside cat totally, she'll go out every once in a while. But she is fixed and I don't want her running out every time the door is opened, so I let her make her own choice. She dosen't stay out long and when I forget, She WILL let me know. Especially since it's so cold everywhere. Food, warmth and love are inside. Good Luck

My cat, Lemmy, alternates between being an adorable house cat looking for love, a comfy bed and food... and a rampaging monster, sh......ing all the girl cats in the area, and wildly hunting any living creature smaller than him !

My two cats are indoor cats but my sisters are indoor/outdoor ones. I think it really depends on where you live/traffic volume. We live in an aparment and so I'm going to get them both leads just to take out in the yard for exercise but they won't go out alone. Whereas my sister lives in a more secluded area on a quieter street so it's not as noisy/traffic-y there for her cats and they are safer. It really just depends on your and your cats preferences. Good Luck.
