At about 12:30am, I heard something band against my front door. It scared the heck out of me so I looked out the peep hole and didn't see anything. After a few seconds, I saw a white dog (some type of pitbull looking dog) and it was jumping on and looking up at my door. I never opened the door but he acted like he saw me and started to bark. I felt bad for not letting him in because it is so cold out but I am allergic to dogs and I also don't know if he was nice or not. Well, this went on for about 3 minutes and then he went around to the back yard for a bit. It kinda creeped me out but I felt bad for him at the same time. We don't really have strays in the area. I don't have any animals. Why did he come to my house? lol

Please do put some blankets outside for him since you can't let him in due to your allergies. Even if you don't see him anymore, put some out anyway.
If it's below 35 degrees F, please call your dog warden or animal control to come to your neighborhood and pick him up if they can spot him. It may seem cruel to doom a dog to the pound, but it's even more cruel to allow one to suffer the cold and possibly even freeze to death.

I would imagine this dog knows there is a nice person inside to look after him. I imagine maybe you have a similar door to its owner and maybe in it's confusion got a bit lost. He was probably trying to find a familiar way in. You did the right thing and not let him in the house not only because of your allergies but you are right a stray dog could be capable of anything and you don't need to deal with that that time of the night.
Ring the Animal person to pick him up next time they usually have an after hours service.

weird!!!! you never know....it could be like a scam for some weirdo to get you to open your door. or the dog is used to being inside and somehow got out so hes desperate to find warmth.
maybe put some food and a old blanket outside untill the morning and things can be a bit safer for you...
