the same reason the wife and the mistress can't get alone. Its all about a man

Well for me I can say that my wife and our daughter-in-law are getting on well as a mother and daughter.

The problem here is a question of possession. Mother has been taking care of her son for such a long time in life. The daugher-in-law who comes later in the life wants immediate control over the boy. The lady who came later in the way should adopt a circutious route to change the thinking of the mother-in-law and give her the confidence that she is her mother too. Then the things will change for the better.

It all depends on the family back ground of both mother in law and daughter in law.
The son/husband plys an vital role in pushing the train in either way. So the things turn up as per this catalyist.

It's because both of them are fighting for the same man! I know this sounds gross, yet it is true. Mothers once connected to their sons they always want control and protect them, not allowing the wife to take that position. Since, the mothers always have the idea that no one can take care of him like she can. The wife is always struggling to be as good as his mother (that's usually very hard if the man is very close to his mom) making a lot of competition conflicts along the way!

Vicissitudes of life! They can, and often do, behave like friends superficially, though, most of the times! Of course, there are always exceptions to all observed patterns of behavior, and there are genuinely "good pairs" of mothers & daughters-in-law, in every continent/country. I do not , however, profess to have any knowledge in this regard, about the continent of Antartica...

its very difficult as mothers want to contorl their son after her sons marriage she cannot see that someone has taken her place and i dont say always mothers are wrong even some of the wifes want thier husbands uner their control and it all depnds on man but for this i really pity man as they become sandwich between 2 ladies who r equally imp in his life.

and ne more big reason is that mothers want the work to happen the way she was doing it and if DIL cannot do that then it will go worst and for me i think DIL has to change and sacrifice more to be friendly with her MIL

Its a mother thing! The males mothers never things the son has picked the "right one." And if they have picked the right one, the mother drills the girlfriend for an eternity! It is worse if the son is an only boy!

I guess I'm lucky. My wife and my Mom are really good friends. They ised to talk to each other on the phone everyday for a while. It makes it a lot less stressful on me to have them get along so well!

I work for my boyfriend's mum. As a boss, she's great, and we get along well. At home, we don't have a lot in common but we still get along really well. I think the whole thing is in our heads; for example, I'm constantly paranoid that she likes my partner's brother's girlfriend better than she likes me (they have a lot more in common). But the thing is, as long as we make their sons happy, they're ok with us.
