I know buying brand is expensive. But because engagement ring is one special ring to a special girl, I would like to buy something that is really nice.
I know tiffany and cartier are popular brands but are there any other brands which are popular? (well known?)
I'm based in Australia so please tell me brand/s which i can get in Australia. And how much i would need. Thank you!!

You shouldnt be worried about the brand. You should be worried about the Diamonds quality(if you plan on buying a Diamond). You can have two brands and one might be better than the other but if the diamond isnt of good value then the ring isnt good enough to begin with. You need to look for a good color and clarity. The Four C's.

Color, Clarity, Carat and Cut. The Color and Clarity are the most important. You want something that starts at D color but not past G because form H and on you can start to see the yellow in the stone and as far as Clarity...You want VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2 and maybe S1. I wouldnt like anything past that because then u can start to see the inclusions. Every diamond has inclusions but some are not visible to the human eye unless its under a 10X Microscope but if you buy a Diamond thats beneath S1 then theres a possibility that the inlusions are visible and u dont want that.

The Carat all depends on how big you want the stone to be. Anything under 1/2 a Carat is small but that all depends on your budget. You can have a small stone but it can be worth more than a 1 Carat stone if the Color and Clarity are of value. So you need and should shop around.

As far as the shape goes...there are so many but that all depends on what kind she might like. I personally like princess, Emerald and Radiant. Radiant to me is the most beautiful shape and so unique. Not many woman have it and thats why i like it. I dont want something that most girls have. Which is why i dont like round. They also have pear, heart, marquise and so many others but remember...the four c's!! thats what matters most.

Now if you dont plan on buying a Diamond then at least you still have some Diamond knowledge, lol. As far as bands go...thats all about preference. Some want white gold, some want yellow and some want platinum.

How exciting! I wouldn't worry about the brand, it's not important. The only thing that is important is how beautiful the ring itself is - there are always nice engagement rings from Michael Hill Jeweller, Wallace Bishop, or something like that. If in doubt, do a search for jewellers in the Yellow Pages, see what you come up with in your area.

Good luck!

I like solitaire rings better. Solitaire rings have more value than 3 stone rings. You have to get what you like better. Maybe go try some on and see what suits your finger better. I thought I wanted a 3 stone ring, but when I tried them on, I liked solitaire rings better. It isn't weird that you like yellow gold, some people do. I have white gold, but it is all about what you prefer. It is your ring and it will cost a good amount of money so make sure you love what you will be wearing.

De Beers is a famous diamond house, although a south African company you can buy from them all over the world. I don't understand this obsession with brand names, what's that all about? Surely it would be more special for you to design something with the help of a jeweller, that way it would be unique to your g/f and not something that hundreds of other girls are wearing all over the world.

the whole purpose of an engagement ring is the symbolism of your love and commitment you will be pursuing together, not the brand of the ring or how much it will cost if you are so worried about brands or what type of ring should you get take her to look at rings with you and have her show you the ones she perfers and go from theretypically we aren't the ones who need to help you she is-she'd the one you want to be with for the rest of your life so ask her?

I wouldn't obsess about brand. Instead of buying the Tiffany logo, but a bigger better diamond. Trust me, opening a Harry Winston box would be nice, but having a 2 carat diamond would be WAY better.

If you want to be sure to get the right one, propose, and take her with you to pick out the ring... then you will not have to worry about picking it out and she has the ring she won't be disappointed with having. Women's tastes change over time as well as trying the rings on. I went from wanting a round stone to buying a pear shaped because it looked better on my hand.

Talk to your gf about what is important to her. Brand name, diamond size, quality? My ring is not a brand name, but it is a high quality one carat diamond instead. This was much more important to me (quality more than size)

check out bluenile.com... you can build your own engagement ring on this site.

I wouldn't care what brand it was, that isn't important. What it looks like is more important than where it comes from. If she wears silver or white gold usually get her a nice white gold one with a big diamond on it. I'm sure she wouldn't turn her nose up at that! I wouldn't!
