At 22, tubal ligation is a serious matter to consider indeed. If you do it, the positives are you can have sex fearlessly, no side effects, you know it is permanant. (if that's what you want).

Negatives are, you are way too young to do this. If you are 32 I would say go for it. Not that 32 is considered old, but at least you have had the number of children you want and you have arrived at a certain stage in your life.

Another one to think about: In case you both have a fall out, break up - then the new guy you meet may want a child. This may pose a problem unless it is acceptable to him. You have to think of everything, you know...?!! Keep your options open.

Health wise, it does not interfere with your daily life.

Alternative? - Vasectomy. With today's technology, micro surgery is possible and it is reversible. The second negative point I gave you above applies to him as well. The new gal he wants to be with, can have a child thru him if they want and Vasectomy is not permanant.

Soul search your heart and know if you really want more children or not. If you and your husband are sure you don't want more children after this pregnancy...then of course have your tubes tied.

I had my tubes tied after my third child as I did not want any unplanned, surprised 'oopsy babies'. My tubes were tied 11 years ago when my youngest was 3 yrs old. No concerns or problems physically from my body as result of having my tubes tied...Life went on as normal.

If your concern is that you're 22 and might want to have more children in the future...then wait to make that decision to have tubes tied. Some say that tubes tied can be reversed if later change your mind...don't count on that. Make sound decision when you are ready and be fine with that. And, include your husband in the decision...that will make it so much more peaceful for you. Don't let him say something as...it's your decision...that is too much pressure on you...this should be a joint decision.

I had 3 children and after the third, I had my tubes tied. I had the procedure almost 3 years ago, and I have never had any trouble. I never had any of the side effects that have cropped up in web sites all over the place. My periods are less heavy now than they were before. My cramps are less intense now than they were before. My advice to you is to talk to your doctor and see what he/she says about the alleged side effects of tubal sterilization, because frankly, I don't buy it myelf. Like I said, it's worked just fine for me.

I would not recommend a tubal at 22; have you talked to your husband about a vasectomy it would be much cheaper and can be reversed a lot easier than a tubal. Just in case someday in the future you both should happen to change your mind about having more children.

I had my tubes tied after the birth of my son. I never experienced any problem ever with it. Even right after the operation I really had little pain or problems. I have never gotten pregnant so I am happy with it.
