Recently, my brother and sister-in-law hosted a 70th birthday party for our mother. My husband and children and I traveled from Ghana, Africa to NJ to be a part of it. Truth be told, if it hadn't been for the party, we'd not have gone as the expense to us was fairly significant. Nonetheless, it was wonderful to see my Mom and brothers and sister who all live in the States.

I'd like to personally thank my sister-in-law and brother for what they did by sending a gift. Any ideas? She just recently lost over 100 lbs, so the idea of a food gift basket is out.

Thanks.

Barb

Gift certificates are a nice way to say thank you to any one. Almost every establishment has them. You can get one for a movie theater, a nice restaurant, music stores have them to buy music CD's. Or maybe one from a nice department store would be nice too. It could be for both your brother and sister-in-law to enjoy together. I admire you for wanting to thank them for all they did. That is very nice of you. Hope this helps!

How old is their oldest? If it's been a while, you could get them one of the newer baby gadgets. For example, with our third, some friends got us a Bumbo seat. They said they didn't know if we'd use it, but didn't figure we had one since they weren't really out when our first two were born. We didn't use it a ton, but it was a fun gift -- useful for a while. You could also buy girl clothes in bigger sizes. Don't get the newborn stuff, but 12-18 months or even 2T. It was nice to have a few of the larger items for our kids to grow into. Diapers are almost always a great gift, too (unless they're very picky about which brand or they use cloth). Homemade gifts like baby blankets are also sweet. My sister-in-law made each of my kids a fleece tie blanket. The blankets were really too big to be used for babies, but they're the perfect size for toddlers. My oldest two are 4 and 5, and they're just now outgrowing the blankets their aunt made for them. Hope that gives you a few more ideas!

That is so sweet and nice of you to want to do this. Send them gift certificates to clothing stores or money to buy an outfit. Tell them to have fun shopping and hope they have a fun night out on the town.
