I have been on the percocet for about three months. I am still having a hard time walking for long periods of time, bending over is almost impossible, and I still have a tremendous amount of pain. My doctor says that it is policy that they treat you for 90 days after surgery, then you no longer receive the pain meds. I only have a two day dosage left. I need to know how I can detox myself without dying. I don't snort them or anything or take them to get high, but it doesn't really matter why you were taking them, the withdrawals are the same, right? Anyway, any advice on how I could make the ordeal less suffering would be appreciated. Thanks!

The doctor should wean you off the meds slowly. I would recommend making an appt at a pain clinic to address the addiction and the reason for the pain.

Ask your Dr to prescribe something else like Ultram to replace the percocet so you have something for the pain. He should have started a gradual discontinuance after 30 dys so that you would not become dependant on the percocet. Also if you took them as prescribed it doesn't mean you have to be addicted to them. Not everyone gets hooked on these pain meds. Discuss your concerns with your Dr. & ask for help.

I'm concerned for you.

Not so much on the detox, but it sounds like they haven't thought thru.

You need a series of PT for sure.

And if not percocet, you might need something one notch down.

Need is not the same as addiction or dependance. I wish people would not assume on the need for pain meds.

Anyway. Make an appt for the Dr. if you have continuing pain, and work with them, communicate your needs and pain levels. Don't get frustrated but talk with the doctor.

I've been there. Also, if pain continues, make sure you take a chronic pain class. It saved my life.

Good luck. email if you want.

90 days on Percocet shouldn't cause any addiction if you are using them as prescribed.

If you are taking more than prescribed or taking them more often and abusing them, then you have a greater chance of forming an addition.

At 90 days, you should be able to stop cold turkey without a problem at all.

You should be off the percocet by now. Perhaps the back surgery was not successful. I had fusion surgery last Sept. and was off of percocet in about a month.

I was on paxil for 10 years and I tried to go off the cold turkey but I kept cryying and I figured that I would be on it forever. but. I finally made a search on paxil and found out that the reason I was crying everytime I tried to go off the stuff was that crying was one of side effects of going off. /so I than knew that I could go off the crap. I did wean myself off the stuff, until I finally got off it. You may expiernce alot of miserable side affects but if you can do it good for you. Maybe you looked up the webb. on paxil, if you did you should know that there was a class action law suit for paxil there was alot of people commiting suicide on the poison. Well good luck and dont give up the idea of weaning off slowly.n April
