God is too big a power to be comprehended by reading Bible or Koran or Bhagwadgita. The scriptures also tell us the necessity of having a spiritual guide.
We find many so called preachers of divine knowledge in this world. We get confused and get trapped into the net cast by these self professed pretenders. In the process we are deprived of the meeting with a true saint which I am sure is available around. Is it possible to find Him despite all the odds?

It's a serious question and need be answered only by true reasearchers.

YES. Everyone can find his own Guru when he truely loves God. When a person wants to know God he sends true Guru to know him. Guru will remove the darkness of the devotee and he is the only one who can show God. Guru is the speaking voice of silent God. Guru is omnipresent. He will come when he listens a real soul call.

dear friend,
If you are a seeker of spiritual meaning, to your life, bhakthi yoga is the easiest means and it is well explained in Bhagavat Gita. Easily understandable translated versions along with bhashya or explanations are available in Ramakrishna Mut and such other organisations. You exist, you breath, your blood ciculates, your biological systems work, without your interferamce/ or deliberation. God exists when you perceive your existance.

Be patient enough to understand yourself. It is said, Instead of a student searching for a Guru, a Guru is always in search of a suitable student. Medicines are there for a particular ailment. But only a doctor who can understand the drug, the ailment and also the patient can cure. Fundmentals are faith and persevarance. As you enrich yourself, you will understand higher levels of knowledge, when you may come acrose a Guru who can elevate you to still higher levels.

Very interesting & important question for serious thinkers like you.As you said God big.If we refer to the verse in Bhagavad Gita 4 chap.Sri Krishna speaks about this point. But one should accept this as Arjuna did, then only the answer is obtained.
Krishna Says :BG4.2
evam paramparä-präptam
imam räjarñayo viduù
sa käleneha mahatä
yogo nañöaù parantapa
means :This supreme science was thus received through the chain of disciplic succession, and the saintly kings understood it in that way. But in course of time the succession was broken, and therefore the science as it is appears to be lost.
It is clearly stated that the Gétä was especially meant for the saintly kings because they were to execute its purpose in ruling over the citizens. Certainly Bhagavad-gétä was never meant for the demonic persons, who would dissipate its value for no one's benefit and would devise all types of interpretations according to personal whims. As soon as the original purpose was scattered by the motives of the unscrupulous commentators, there arose the need to reestablish the disciplic succession. Five thousand years ago it was detected by the Lord Himself that the disciplic succession was broken, and therefore He declared that the purpose of the Gétä appeared to be lost. In the same way, at the present moment also there are so many editions of the Gétä (especially in English), but almost all of them are not according to authorized disciplic succession. There are innumerable interpretations rendered by different mundane scholars, but almost all of them do not accept the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kåñëa, although they make a good business on the words of Çré Kåñëa. This spirit is demonic, because demons do not believe in God but simply enjoy the property of the Supreme. Since there is a great need of an edition of the Gétä in English, as it is received by the paramparä (disciplic succession) system, an attempt is made herewith to fulfill this great want. Bhagavad-gétä—accepted as it is—is a great boon to humanity; but if it is accepted as a treatise of philosophical speculations, it is simply a waste of time. [As-They-Surrender-Unto-Me ] [VTE]
Bg 4.3
Also there are different branches from this parampara is available today also.Like ISKCON where we can find a bonofide true Guru, who comes from Bramha Madhva Goudya sampradhaya. We can get the right answers from this place with out a doubt. If we can chant Hare Krishna Maha Mantra with love & devotion SPG Sri Krishna Himself will help us in finding a True Guru.

The eternal guru is always available with you. Living selfish Gurus may ill/misguide you. They themselves have to follow the righteous path first but fail usually. Why don't make the Creator your Guru with direct link.

In India, some gurus/saints claimed or said to have/had super natural powers and some are prayed as Real Creator, though human beings and creatures.

Muslims firmly believe and strictly practice the teachings & commands of their holy book Quran & their Prophet, which is their Code of Life at all times/places. They have the written, clear and unambiguous teachings to guide righteous or wrongs, pious or evil, fair or unfair, etc. They follow them blindly in matters of responsibilities, liabilities, rights, daily life, marriage, private & public relation, business, trade, earning & spending, etc. etc. Anybody may read, satisfy, accept and practice it.

A GURU need not be only spiritual! He / She can be related to scientific field also.
According to me any person who teaches you something valuable, something you feel important to inculcate in your life is a GURU.
A Teacher or a Professor can also be Guru's( If you like and respect them that is- (not all of them qualify as guru)).
And the best GURU's You can get....Your Parents!

Mata ,Pita ,Guru -Daivam.
The primary Guru is the Mother,Then the Father and Of course your Teacher.A combination of the power of this Trinity is the best way to understand God.Thats what i feel.
For the concept of Guru as you seem to seek i have only one answer.Dhyana...or meditation.
Understand God through the power of Meditation.
I feel that a Guru need not be physically present. Its the Trust that you lay on him irrespective of his physical presence that matters.
Nature itself is the ultimate Guru for in it lies the most beautiful form of God.
And as for religions , care no more.
Its like different rivers that traverse through different terrains and in the end merge into the mighty ocean-God.And once they reach this ocean, rivers matter no more .For all their waters mix so well that one cannot differentiate any more. The only way to realise and understand God is to understand that "Religion should not end up as a barrier to God but as a way to him".
Om Shanti.God Bless You and the world irrespective of which religion you hail from but because of the fact that our common roots that lie in the Param Guru -God and that to him we shall return in this cyclical process called life.

First of all do you believe in yourself? If yes, do not go beyond yourself in search of GURU. You are the master of your own body. Your body is the most precious object in the world. Everything begins there and ends there. So all holy books reveal the myth, beliefs and history. You just learn from those teachings and control your body to protect it. When you learn to protect yourself obviously you protect everything around you.
