instantly become merely "symbolic" while everything else is literal (until, of course, it is factually disproven)?

There is very little in the Bible that can be "factually" disproven without manipulating the facts.

For example, before proving the flood factually falsified, people who hate Christianity often manipulate the following facts to suit their purpose:

1) the flood covered the whole planet (Genesis makes no such statement, and the writer didn't even know what a planet was)

2) Noah took on board the ark a representitive of every animal in the world (again, Genesis makes no such statement)

The problem with "proving" the Bible wrong is that you have to make assumptions before you prove anything, and I just love making sport of skeptics who do this. It's dishonest and it accomplishes nothing but to expose a skeptic's motives and hate of religion.

The most intelligent thing you can do is simply let the Bible tell it's stories and evaluate them in context and on their own merits. You don't have to believe them if you don't want to. There's no law broken.

The Christian faith would have no basis if everything (in their mind) was only symbolic, because they wouldn't understand the message. The literal is easier to comprehend than symbolism. Reality is that the Bible is full of stories with moral lessons and it is also an account of occurrances that are highly unusual....more like an account of the paranormal. There are many incidents which could be considered alien encounters (if taken literally), but that would muddy the waters for Christians.

In my experience, only a few try to make difficult passages symbolic, and those folks usually make the entire text symbolic. Far too many people take the whole thing literally, despite factual information.

Because Bible is not a word of God...it was written by man...they wrote according to their desires...they tempered it.

Read Holly Qur’an….believe me it has a power to remove your all doubts/misconceptions bear in your minds.

The Glorious Qur’an is the last and final Revelation which was revealed to the last and final Messenger Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him.

any book to claim that it is a Revelation from Almighty God, it should stand the test of time.

Previously in the olden days, it was the age of miracles - Alhamdulillah, the Qur’an is the miracle of miracles.

Later on came the age of literature and poetry, and Muslims and Non Muslims alike, they claim the Glorious Qur’an to be the best Arabic literature available on the face of the Earth.

But today is the age of science and technology. Read Holy Qur’an and let analyze by your ownselves whether the Qur’an is compatible or incompatible with modern science.

Albert Einstein said… ‘Science without Religion is lame, and Religion without Science is blind’. Let me remind you that although the Glorious Qur’an is not a book of Science…S-C-I-E-N-C-E, It is a book of signs S-I-G-N-S…

There are 6666 Ayats (Arabic word) which means signs … Ayats in the Glorious Qur’an out of which more than a thousand speak about science.

I am not speaking about scientific hypothesis and theories, which are based on assumption without any proof, because we all know many times science takes U-turns.

there are two types of approaches, one is a concordance approach - which means a person tries to bring compatibility between the Scripture and science

and the other is the conflict approach, in which a person tries to bring a conflict between Scripture and science, like how Dr. William Campbell has done very well in his book and many other fanatic Christian, jews, hindus professors/orientlist did as well, those critics intentionally twisted the meaning of Qur’an, mischievously do wrong interpretation of Qur’an and spreading misconceptions about Islam among the innocent people.

If there are some misconceptions bear in your mind it doesn’t mean that Qur’an is wrong as many non Muslims misguided by their critics/orientlists.

If you are a logical and intelligent person then u must think and use your own brain and try to find out the truth.

It is very interesting attitude that exists in the Qur'an repeatedly deals with its advice to the reader. The Allah (swt) informs the reader about different facts and then gives the advice: "If you want to know more about this or that, or if you doubt what is said, then you should ask those who have knowledge." This too is a surprising attitude.

It is not usual to have a book that comes from someone without training in geography, botany, biology, embryology etc., who discusses these subjects and then advises the reader to ask men of knowledge if he doubts anything.

as far as the Qur’an is concerned, irrespective whether a person uses a conflicting approach, or a concordance approach – As long as you are logical, and after a logical explanation is given, not a single person will be able to prove a single Verse of the Qur’an in conflict with established modern science.

For example the Astronomers, a few decades earlier, they described, how the universe came into existence - They call it the ‘Big Bang’.

And they said… ‘Initially there was one primary nebula, which later on it separated with a Big Bang, which gave rise to Galaxies, Stars, Sun and the Earth, we live in.’

This information is given in a nutshell in the Glorious Qur’an, in Surah Ambiya, Ch. 21, Verse No. 30, which says “Do not the unbelievers see… ‘That the heavens and the earth were joined together, and we clove them asunder.’

Imagine this information which we came to know recently, the Qur’an mentions 14 hundred years ago.

Facts (yes facts, not guesses) that contradict the Bible:

: Adam & Eve were not the first humans
: The Earth is several billions of years older than 6000
: A worldwide deluge in which all mountains are covered is an impossibility (not an improbability)
   : Evolution has been observed
: Human incest results in genetic damage

I'm not even going to go into Biblical contridictions...

if you're going to attempt to show your greater intelligence then at least give examples by using selections of verses to illustrate how you are right and christians are wrong.
otherwise you're just being generic or symbolic in your criticism. which means that your statement is not based on anything factual and therefore easily disproven.

We do it mostly just annoy atheists...and it's working!

BTW, have you ever noticed how Wiccans, Neopagans, Neodruids, Isians, Odinists, etc., etc., say all the things they believe in are symbolic too? Yet, no atheists rag on them for it (except Amazing Larry, maybe). For instance, they might tell you worship of the moon goddess is "symbolic" of Jungian archetypes of womanhood when you know dadburn well people thousands of years ago didn't know what a Jungian archetype was...they were just worship ping a big rock in space! Now be fair for once, and all you atheists go pick on them for a while. Plus they believe in magic spells, astrology, ghosts, esp, etc,you guys ought to have a field day with that. Christians are slim pickins, go after the big game!

Just kidding! LOL!

Although you do have to admit, Neopagans are much more guilty of claiming everything's a symbol, and not literal.

I don't have a great answer for this other than to say tha majority of people throughout history that set out to disprove the Bible end up being believers. Tell me when was the last time you heard of a Christian mature in his faith being converted to another religion. BTW there is a difference in being mature in age and mature in faith. I'M 37 and still and infant in my faith. I hope to mature as my life goes on.

What has been disproven? I don't think you understand. Is the Bible disproven the same way evolution has been proven? Because if this is what you are saying, you are speaking out of your a**.
