'As above, so below...'
Destiny is not for us to change because it depends on the balances and laws of the Universe. Destiny is ANYTHING we can't avoid/control/direct. Destiny has nothing to do with a deity (whatever you wanna call it), it just depends on laws, forces and principles of physics, chemistry and so on, which apply on such a higher scale, involving the whole Universe, that's impossible for us to control.
Fate, instead, can be changed and controlled through decisions, actions, discoveries, and Science. So, we can and actually do determine our own Fate, only within the mandatory track set up by Destiny though.

Let us not get bogged down with semantics: fate, destiny, lot, etc invariably mean the same thing in the dictionary. Therefore we should not attempt to separate fate from destiny.
Now back to the main question: are we created with a (pre-ordained) destiny or do we create our own destiny? Interestingly, the answer is yes to both sides of the question.
Yes, there is a pre-ordained destiny which cannot be changed, and this is that: WE WILL ALL FIND OUR WAY BACK TO GOD (regardless of whatever choices we make). This is the ultimate, primary destiny, and it is a question of how or when for each person.
And yes, we can can create our own (secondary) destiny. For example, a person who belongs to a poor family may decide to end the cycle of poverty by working hard to train him/herself to become a professional, or he/she may just let things be. The outcome, or destiny, is different in these circumstances, and the destiny can therefore be assumed to have changed.

I don't believe in either of them, and I think fate is the same as destiny. It's all about a predetermined outcome, which I do not believe in.

I don't believe in either.I do, however believe in making your own luck through the choices you make. Even if we cant make our own luck it is in our best interests to convince ourselves we can. At least that way we can con ourselves into thinking we have SOME control.

I like the question.
However, fate and destinity imply a divine plot. This is out of the realm of reality.
Thought, consideration, motion, "luck" and motivation are more likely.

Everyone is responsible for their own actions--nothing is predetermined. You can always choose to do what is right, sometimes it just sucks.
