I am a designer as well, but am not well-read in the workings of feng shui. I know a little about it, but I would like more chi throughout my space.

BTW, I have a loft without a garden!

it is complicated because you lack information, such as, when (exact date, with year) did you first moved into the house, using a compass what is the direction (exact degree in the 360) your main door is facing (facing is you are inside the house, facing the main door looking out, the direction you are facing is the facing of your door/ house), and what is your birthdate?

fengshui is about formulas/ configurations/ systems/ calculations/ concepts, and proper application of these. each concept has its own calculations. and based on these, you will know what areas have good energy and which areas to avoid. you also know how to activate certain areas and how to maximize attracting money into our life.

fengshui is not about intuition; it is not about which color to paint, or what statue or painting to use. it is using certain specific formulas to determine what direction to face that has a good energy/ chi and facing that direction so you can absorb it. most of the cases, people do not face the good direction, but your house do the facing. meaning if the direction of the door is not good, you might have problems in your life that keeps on coming in cycle, and won't go away. that is why many chinese tilt their doors to a certain degree to remedy the situation. again, there are many good and bad directions. it is hard to specify each one of them.

it is also difficult to give advices because fengshui has a time element, meaning a house first used in 1999 is different from the house first used in 2006, even they both faces exactly the same degree. because the one in 1999 is period number 7, and 2006 belongs to period number 8, thus the calculations/ configurations changes. then there is the design of the house, another reason why you need a house plan or a blueprint when consulting a fengshui auditor or master. here you can know the distribution of chi inside the house. becasue of these factors, if you put a moving water feature in an area, because lets say your friend used this in that particular area, but in your area there is too much fire (can only be seen in the calculation using a fengshui concept), because you have a moving water the fire in that area can be activated, causing you to either have sickness related to blood or heart or inflamation, or it can also cause for your house to burn down. then there will always be other logical/ scientific explainations like an unhealthy lifestyle with regard to the sickness or faulty wirings with regards to fire. in fengshui, we are trying to avoid these bad events, their explanations are irrelevant. because if you have good fengshui, those bad events won't happen in the first place.
