I ask this question in all seriousness. I briefly skim through dozens upon dozens of questions and answers every week that all contain hideous parodies of English grammar, spelling, and sentence structure. Often, the words and ideas that are attempted to be expressed are nearly impossible to determine because they have been overly truncated. Vocabulary as well appears to have fallen out of style.

And its not the people who can't use it properly because they learned it as a second language that bother me at all. It is the ones that do know it, and can't be bothered to use it properly.

yeah, i get your point too. i think it has a lot to do with our culture these days. with the advent of sms, emails and msn-chats and so on, communication is very convenient but to the majority of youngsters (this is just my opinion though), their concern is how fast they can get their opinion and message across and whether their language, grammar or spelling is correct is inconsequential or secondary so long their intended recipients can understand them. they use acronyms that are generally recognised or create their own acronyms, and in time, this becomes a habit .

in fact, what i have typed so far is too chunky to even fit properly into the sms screen of a tiny mobile these days, so i rarely use handphones to send long sms if i can get my hands on a computer and use the email instead.

this is a growing trend, and i agree it is a worrying trend as well, since i am one of those who cant read most of what the youngsters are typing these days ... but i think the youngsters have a term for this - they call it 'generation gap' ...

maybe i am lagging behind a little in this aspect ... but in most cases, it is not too serious that i cannot interpret the message.

I guess it must be because there is sure a whole lot of mistakes on here and the sad thing is quite a few are made by English speaking people. I think people are just getting lazy.

like, hello? this is like, a whole other language already in itself. spoken and typed english is so completely different from that formal language you have just typed. in all 'seriousness' it is not that hard to type but it is a fast forward language. like, who can actually be bothered to type 'parody' when you can say 'diff type' and mean the same thing. or like, 'truncated'. who uses that word nowadays? even in real life?

Fortunately for you, self-righteousness never goes out of style. Put down the Lynne Truss, take a deep breath, and remember that not everyone is as perfect as you are.

you know, fortunately for us - for you and for me - it's not that hard to make sense in writing. the majority of other people on this site, however seem to find it impossible to make any sense at all. i hate finding gross misspellings and grammatical errors. as you said, it's hideous. i mean, really, it's painful to read these questions and details because it appears they were all randomly thrown together as an afterthought - without much thought, of course. i feel your pain!! oh, and don't you just hate that many questions posted on here are simply NOT in question form?! it drives me crazy!!!
