The outermost layer of the hair - the cuticle is destroyed and a hair strand splits into 2 or 3 strands.Hair should be trimmed regularly, at least once in six weeks. Longer hair is more likely to develop split ends. After shampooing and conditioning the hair, apply a drop of olive oil on the hair and comb the hair so that it spreads evenly.More details at the link below.

Well, getting your split ends trimmed helps. But if you want to do a treatment. Heat some olive oil in the microwave just until it's warm, you don't want to burn yourself. While you're doing this, put a towel in the dryer and heat it up. When the olive oil is warmed, drip it on your hair and rub it through. Then cover your hair with plastic wrap. Take the warm towel out of the dryer and place it over the plastic wrap. Wait for 20 minutes, condition your hair (do not shampoo) and it will feel icky once it's all rinsed out but when you blowdry it will feel silky smooth and soft. This is a good treatment to do once in a while.

The only really good way to get rid of split ends is by getting a haircut. If you don't want to take that route, try this product: Pantene Pro-V intensive restoration treatment, it's only like $5 at your local drug store apply it to your split ends and leave on. It really helps me and I only use it once a week. Good luck :)
