Martial Arts are systems of techniques created to be a successful means of self-defense. Started by samurai, all of the moves were their lethal way of combat. Most martial arts, with the exception of a few, have been watered down over the ages to employ less lethal combinations.
Mixed martial arts incorporate techniques from several other styles in to its system to produce a more balanced and well-rounded individual.
Combining Taekwondo, Aikido, Hapkido, Wing Chun, Brazilian Jujitsu, Kung Fu, Karate, and more gives the mixed martial art student the ability to adapt to which defense would work best for that situation or which one that the student feels the most comfortable with.
UFC basically is mixed martial arts.

The sport is mixed martial arts. The Ultimate Fighting Championships is the world's largest and most popular promoter of mixed martial arts events.
Other promoters of mixed martial arts include the International Fight League, Pride Fighting Championships, and Elite Xtreme Combat.
Ultimate Fighting is a term used mostly in the mainstream media by those for whom the UFC is synomous with mma.

At my Dojo, they teach mixed martial arts and it is a combination of several different disciplines that are all taught to the student. The benefits are helping to create your own style and having several different options to use for self defense if the occasion arises. It is not ultimate fighting, or not the way they teach it. It is very disciplined.

no UFC is basically any fighting style you want, and MMA is just another fighting style.
It's basically a combination of many fighting styles...usually the fighters incorporate grappling, maybe tae kwon do, basically a combination of many fighting style, because they all have their pluses and negatives, so why not give yourself an adv. by only having the pluses?
