Hopefully you are not getting married around Valentines or Easter or Mother's Day when the flower growers triple their prices.

Carnations are the cheapest AND everyone knows it, so I would avoid them.

If you are doing red/white - How about red roses with babies breath and fern.

You know you could have ANY flowers you want if you make it yourself, it's a cinch. You can find your favorites at your local grocery store, order them in advance and put them together and tie with a bow or tulle. You just cut off the stems after you have made the arrangement the size and shape you want. (cover stems with tulle or white and red ribbon. If they are fresh, put them in a plastic bag and refrigerate. If they are silk, make them the same way (cut with wire cutter) and wrap with ribbon and/or tulle. No problem.

You could have a silk bouquet you made yourself that would last forever. I still have mine hanging on the wall with white casa blanca lilies and white roses. Michaels has good silks.

If you are unsure of yourself, buy some cheap flowers or pick them and practice first. A dry run will give you the confidence.

You can save on your bridesmaids too. Also boutoneirres are very easy - flower - fern - Babies Breath - cloth covered wire - pin.

Good Luck

daisies are very inexpensive, so are carnations, and alstromeria is really pretty and inexpensive as well, it sorta looks like bells on the end, really cute and I'm havin them in my bouquets as filler. you could still have some roses, they are not tooo expensive, and Gerbera Daisies are a little more, still not too bad, but they take up so much space that a little goes a long way and you wouldn't need lots of them so you could get away with just a few inexpensively! By the way, I would avoid babies breath, its very dated now, and tends to make bouquets look a lil 2 80's for me! Their are other white fillers you can use like limonium thats pretty (your florist will know)

Flowers to avoid based on price-
CALLA LILLIES--super expensive!
Hydrangeas
most tropical things
lilly of the valley
lisianthus

There are lots of flowers you can use without using the old standby of Carnations. You can make a red and white bouquet using some of these flowers:

White Stock (inexpensive fragrant bloom), White Gerbera Daisy, White Chrysanthemum, White Gladiolus (Holds up well without water)
Red Hypericum Berries, 'Reagan Red' and 'Early Bird' Chrysanthemums, Gerbera Daisy.

I would suggest shopping around for a florist as well. Many times, it depends on who you talk to in the floral shop to get a good price. A lot of the price of a bouquet is the labor...not the bloom itself. If you want Roses and Callas and they are telling you it would be too pricey, order the blooms separately and arrange them yourself. If you are try to get bouquets for all your maids as well then consider ordering the flowers in bulk online. www.onlinewholesaleflowers is a pretty comprehensive site and they have 'weddings in a box' starting at $150.00!! Good Luck

You can go to your local Costco or Sam's Club and can buy nice roses to make your own bouquet. Don't go with carnations, imagine these are going to be your wedding pictures, nobody wants carnations in their wedding pictures. You can get roses at Costco and then some baby's breath at a local flower shop, it shouldn't be more expensive than 20 bucks for the whole thing. Good luck and congratulations!

Red carnations are going to be your least expensive option. A lot of people shy away from them just because they are the cheapest. However, just because they are cheap, it doesn't mean they have to look cheap. I've put some links to photos in the sources for you to consider. I, personally, would shy away from the mixing of baby's breath with the carnations. I think they look much more elegant without it.

Red Carnation colors say " I admire you" or "My heart aches for you". They indicate love, passion, and respect.

That depends on what kinds of flowers you want, how big the bouquets will be and how many bouquets you want. Check with some of your local florists for pricing.

I made my own bouquet from a picture that I saw in a magazine. I made it from silk flowers and it was easy to do! It looked JUST like the one in the picture, and I still have it!!! I hasn't faded or died! Some of the flowers I had to really look for because they weren't in season, but I look at it everyday and it reminds me of our special day and why we got married in the first place!

Carnations are pretty cheap, then just add a couple large lilies and a couple other nice flowers to accent them. Simple, but very pretty and the lilies always have a classy look.
