You can put metal in microwave ovens provided how you put them. Try a spoon in a cup full of liquid nothing happens not even a spark!

There is nothing wrong with putting a metal container in a microwave!
It's only when you put it in with something flammable that it becomes a problem.
I once saw the man, (an engineer), who invented the microwave oven, and he threw in a large wad of tin foil and turned on the microwave. It put on a great light show of sparks and crackles, but otherwise... no big deal! Didn't hurt the microwave and didn't hurt the tin foil. But, when he added a paper towel... the paper towel ignited of course.

They tell you not to put any metal in the microwave because metal reflects microwaves. So unless you wanna cook your self using a microwave i suggest you dont put it inside. Also when microwaves his metal, they produce electricity. Thats why when you put steel wool or a cd inside, they start electric arks

Becasue the inner cavity is resonant at the operating frequency of the oven. That means that the electric field is zero at the cavity walls.
