I think you know what hell is when you have a teenager. My one son has been brought back home, after being attacked. I could read the shoe size of the guy who kicked him imprinted on his back. Ay age 15 my son experiemented with alcohol and passed out in the snow, in t-shirt and jeans. Luckily the police found him. I am terrified for my daughters, too.
Most murder victims are men under the age of 25. And my kids are good, well brought up and behave. Saying that, one has experimented with drugs, joined the army - I went through agony when the war broke out.
But as they get older and settle down, they move away and yes, you do worry less. Simply because you don't know every detail of their lives anymore. But it never goes away.

No, I think my mum worries more about us older ones because she has less control over us......
I have 4 brothers aged 10 - 15 - 27 - 23 and I am 30.
The younger ones have to be in at a certain time so she knows where they are and that they're safe - but me and the older 2 cause more worry cos we are out all night and wouldn't dream of checking in with her!
This makes her really mad!

Two things:
1. No at 63 I still worry. In fact I am still supporting the 35 year old and the 23 year old (with help from the 31 year old)
and
2. I was so glad to read all those answers and realise I am not the only daft one. Its just that in the end I believe in them.

I can't speak for other people but in my case the answer is "No". I had my son late in life after a possibly life-threatening illness earlier in our marriage. He is my only child, now away at uni. I have done my best to give him his freedom but I cannot stop worrying about his safety and well being. I guess it's simply a strong maternal instinct maybe taken to the extreme - and I worry about that too!

I have raised my younger brother, and he just turned 17. I worry about EVERYTHING for him, and he expresses all the time how annoyed he gets, but I can't help it! I think he was so excited when I had my baby, because he figured she would take most of my focus, but I still worry about him like crazy.
Funny enough, I just overheard an argument my aunt had with my cousin the other day, who is in her 20s, and my cousin said "Mom, when are you going to stop worrying, and checking up on me and trying to tell me what's best for me?" You know what my aunt said? "I'll stop the day I die."

NO. Mine are 11 and 13. Not only do I worry for their safety, but I worry for their future as well. It is because we want our children to be happy and secure that we worry. I hope that they learn from their mistakes and do not repeat them. I hope that they choose to do what makes them happy and not live for money and "things."

Are you kiddin'? I worry about how much I worry!!
The honest answer is no, it'll never go completely away, but, it will lessen. I have three kids ...21, 18 & 17 ... my eldest is married and has three little ones. I used to worry about her a lot, but after she married my constant worrying lessened considerably. Right now ... I'm a mess .. lol ... my two sons are "stretching their wings" readying them for flight. *sob*
