Just had a quick glance at today's headlines and found an interestsing news that Anna Nicole's corpse is now a target of legal battle...A court has ordered the burial of her body within short period of time from now because "Although her body is now refrigerated and seemingly no damages have been done to it; we still recommend speeding up the legal process to have the body buried as soon as possible because any delay may cause damages to her..." This somewhat laughable statement makes me wonder if the refrigeration can cause damages to dead bodies...isn't it supposed to be one of the most effective way to preserve a body?

Yes it will preserve a body. Basically the same reason you have a refrigerator in your home. Bacteria will not start to make things rot until the temperature is high enough (they really love room temperature). Quick burial is good though because freezing is really the only way to store any animal for a longer period of time without damage.

This is done through cryonics. Freezing is a classic option. As the body is frozen, all processes stop - including growth, deterioration, production etc.. Although there is still damage done, the loss is minimal. This is done through advance medicine operations and are usually done in medicine, particularly surgery, while undergoing transplant or removal of blood temporarily.

Practical example: why freeze food? To stop them from spoiling.

They want to speed up the process because even though she is in a refrigerator her body will still start to decompose after a couple of weeks. So that kind of ruins any chance for an open casket. And she deserves to have her body laid to rest before she starts decomposing

They are dragging the whole thing out for media stuff. They are planning to test her DNA to see if her baby is her sons's so Im sure her husband wants to put a stop to it. Just commercialism. Jeeze, leave her alone.
