My 4 year old son has had alot of behavioral problems for a couple years, it seems like every week it gets worse. I have tried all kinds of different ways to disipline him and nothing works. He gets mad at almost nothing, throws fits, hits, yells, and is hyperactive and I don't know why he acts like this. I was doing some research and came across a website that said kids who have food allergies may act out in this way and sometimes it is mistaken for ADHD. Has anyones kid acted out this way from a food allergy? He drink milk like crazy and love chocolate and lots of other diary products.

Okay I know I said my son loves chocolate but he doesn't get it all day long. He might have something with chocolate in it after he has lunch but that's not everyday. The only soda he gets sprite and he doesn't get that very often.

My son has not had any food that contains milk for over 24 hours and I have already seen improvements in his behavior, he hasn't tried to hit anyone at all today, and hasn't really yelled either. I really think the milk products where the issue. Thanks Nick for the advise on the core diet I'm going to check into that. Thanks to everyone that had advise on allergies.

I have 3 daughters- 2 with allergies. I believe what you are describing could be allergies, or an intolerance to something. At 4 years old, his yelling etc, could be him letting you know that he's not feeling good.
My daughters and I were on the 'Core Diet' --- it was hard, but well worth it. We followed the program called 'Core Diet for Kids', by Stephen J. Gislason, M.D.. It is published by PerSona Audiovisual Productions.
Good Luck.

I don't know. You are probably doing everything you can. My son is only 5, so I have good control over him right now. But my neighbor, who knows that my son has a peanut allergy, fed him a peanut butter sandwich because "she forgot". Luckily, my 6 year old daughter realized it before my son took a bite. For me right now, probably the best thing would be to pack a lunch/snacks for him when he is visiting friends. At least that would be a visual cue for the parents to check labels. But I know what you mean. They are not really educated on reading labels and seeing the hidden sources of nuts.

My son has an allergy to corn. Yes, corn. And if you read up...corn is in EVERYTHING! It has several different names and its very hard to cook for him. He can't have a happy meal like other children.
As far as an allergy to dairy or chocolate, you would know it. I think maybe your giving him too much sweets. If he is ADHD, that alone can cause "disipline" problems.
See a doctor and tell them whats on your mind, thats what their there for.
Good luck to you.

My daughter absolutely CANNOT have chocolate, very, very bad for small kids; take it away from him ASAP and replace with carob or, I have heard white chocolate isn't bad, but really do not know. There is an enzyme in chocolate that makes us crave milk, they say, reason for the milk drinking. Yes, just stop chocolate. NO CANDY AT ALL, try yogurt covered raisins instead, they are good!

One of my sons had adhd. The funny thing is that when we stopped letting him have fast food, soda, and sweets, and made him eat regular, home-cooked meals instead, his adhd 'mysteriously' went away.

"love chocolate" Well geeze how much chocolate does this kid get? I love it too but I also know too much can be trouble. Chcolate has caffine, caffine is a drug/a stimulant. If he LOVES chocolate and he gets it a lot that can be part of the problem right there.
