Yes, it is normal to pick her up the same day. your vet will fill you in on how she needs to be cared for at home and when the stitches/staples will need to come out.Your boyfriend is being silly, ignore him, you must be the brains of the pair :)

Yes, picking her back up the same day is normal now. Dogs recover much better from surgery than people because people KNOW what happened to them and it impacts them mentally. Dogs just know they went nap-nap and woke up with some slightly owie stitches and whatever other changes were made. Your vet can give you complete aftercare instructions and tell you when to come back for stitch removal if necessary.

Surgery hurts anyone who has it, for a while, but spaying a pet is a very responsible decision and the pain will be forgotten pretty quickly if her recovery goes well. Your vet will tell you if there is anything specific to look for and how to check out her stitches if necessary. She can also be put on pain medication if she seems painful - a wad of peanut butter helps the pill go down.

Not spaying your dog can lead to a host of difficulties down the line that you'd do much better avoiding. If you like and trust your vet and he or she tends your dog well, try not to worry :)

You have already received good advice from the others. The procedure is "out patient", so it is normal for your puppy to come home the same day. Having your dog spayed is a responsible choice, good for you.

I just wanted to add some of my experience...

1. She will be very sore and will want to be by herself for a day or two. She probably already has a "hiding" place she goes to when she is scared... she will likely head to that spot and stay there for the night without moving. You may want to move the food and water near that spot.

2. If you have kids or other pets, you need to put her in her own area where she won't get picked up by a child that doesn't understand or rough housed by another dog or cat.

3. Give her peace and quiet.

4. Be patient: Her attitude will not be good for a week or two.

5. Be careful when holding her for a good month. Just think if someone tried to pick you up after surgery... Owww!

yeah for the most part a few hours stay in normal NEVER LEAVE A DOG OVERNIGHT for a spay or neuter! (learned that the hard way thought was odd should have known better) she might be a bit sleepy when she comes home and the vet will give u an E collar (its a cone) to keep from licking the stitches. do not leave water down untill the dog is fully a wake...dog could fall asleep in water. no jumping up on couch or running... take stairs slow...and thats about it. it will not hurt her she will be better for it b/c they take out everything.. so she will not get cancer of her female parts which boxer are a breed more likely to get cancer any where. plus it will save u from having any unwanted pups.

Just got my 7 month old Boston Terrier fixed 2 weeks ago. We took her in 8:30 am and got her out 5pm. She was sleepy for the rest of the day and returned to her normal self in 24 hours. They don't hurt and their stitches come out in 2 weeks. We've done this procedure to all our dogs (we've had a total of 8 dogs) Just remember not to give them food or water after midnight the night before surgery, because like humans, they will vomit any thing in their stomach into their lungs and cause aspiration.

I have two dogs a female and a male and I had both of them fixed and they both came home that same day. Your dog will probably sleep a lot when you do get her home from the pain meds they give them. I didn't have any problems with either one of my dogs after I got them home. Your baby should be just fine I think they feel better faster when they are with the people that love them the most, just keep a good eye on her so you can notice any changes in her. Good luck

Yes that is normal as a spay is a more invasive surgery. When you pick her up you should just keep her quiet and try to cater to her. They will tell you when you can feed her again, I would give her boiled rice with some cooked boneless chicken. Just keeping her comfortable and quiet is the main thing. As for what your BF says, it may be painful now but it's so much better for her in the long run because it will save her the pain caused by mammary cancer, uterine cancer, pyometra, and the possibility of having to carry a litter that isn't wanted. You are doing her a favor and she and I thank you for doing the right thing. Give her a BIG hug and lots of treats from me.

I also own a boxer -well now on my second.. love em! no get her spayed if you don't plan to bread her! It will make things easier for you and her!! unless you want spotted carpet! Yes she will have some pain ,,but not so much to avoid the procedure!! It is done thousands of times a day!! Well just make her a nice soft bed,, give meds,, push into a slice of cheese!! then give time and care !! not a worry one bit!!!!

There are many vets that dont keep them overnight. When she gets home, keep her quiet and give her a coxy place to lie down. Your vet will instruct you.

Spaying your dog is the best thing you can do. Dogs that are not spayed have a 70% higher chance of getting cancer.

She will be a little sore for a few days but she will be fine ,When you bring her home just give her small amount of water til morning ,she will be more likely to eat in the morning due to the anesthetic's that they will be giving her . do not expect her to jump or play for a few days .,The vet should explain all this to you when you pick her up. try not to let her lick her incision very much
