Ok, you've read the other responses to your question, now for the truth....
Yes, you should join the Army National Guard and here's why.
First, it's a great overall experience. You have the ability to get training, get fit, make extra money and depending on what state you join in, it is possible to get free tuition to any state sponsored school. Guys in Kentucky are going to UK or Uof L for FREE.
You will deploy. There is no question about that, however, you will deploy as a unit with people that you have been working with since you got in and you'll know everyone. It's like a family.
There is no better organization in the world. You can help your community during natural disasters, State emergencies, and other events. That's something you can't do in the Reserves or Active Duty. The National Guard is a community based/State based military orgainzation.
I've been in for 21 years. I absolutely LOVE my job and even work full time for the National Guard when I'm not deployed. I hightly recommend it. My son is joining and is already looking forward to it.

As long as you realize that the National Guard is now being forced to serve in Iraq (despite that they're supposed to be "national,") go ahead and join, and thank you for your service. But be aware that we're at war, so it would be a serious commitment.

As long as you know that it is more than just a way to get a free education at the moment then go for it.Chances are you could end up in the desert though, if this is something that you think you can handle do it up

I would recommend Air Force Reserve.
Serve your country, educational benefits, pride, and memories to last a lifetime. You could die at a war, but more Americans are murdered here in the US every year.
You could die at war, but more Americans die on the highways here in the US every year.
You could die at war, but more Americans die from preventable cancers every year.
My point being of course that you can't live in fear of what might happen. Afraid of dying at war so you don't join...you might just die anyways. So keep it in perspective and AIM HIGH!

Join up if you want to fight in a war we have lost. We are in a war that our President manipulated and doctored the pre war intelligence to get us involved. If you join up you will make a good new target in Iraq. They are in a civil war and we are in the middle (the shites and sunnis have been at war for 1000 years)....there is no winning. We are arming both sides of the civil war. 60% of their army and police force are insurgents. So when they are out with you don't be surprised if they take power drills to your brain like they have to over 7000 people (Wall Street Journal).

Don't join the national guard, the last thing we need are more of our people overseas. My brother had to go and they said he would be home in a few months and kept him in Iraq for 2 years. Maybe you should wait til this war blows over to join.
