The EA-6 Prowler is a Eletronice Warfare and Jamming platform. It's common mission it to provide Stand off Jamming support to strike missions. The A designation is given because of the A/C's ablilty to carry Weapons Such as the SHRIKE and HARM Missiles, as well as many other weapons in the inventroy. Usually if the A/C goes in armed it in in a Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses Role. The Additional 2 Crew members operate the jamming equipment.

Prowler is an electronics warfare craft, that basically jams / decoys enemy radars. It actually has a LONGER fuselage in order to accomodate two more guys inside, and it carries NO BOMBS, just extra jamming pods, and sometimes, HARM or Shrike anti-radar missiles. Being a dedicated craft, it is capable of much higher power output than jamming pods that can be carried on non-dedicated aircrafts, making jamming that much more effective from longer range.

It's job is to jam radars in a selected area so other planes can operate without being shot at by Radar guided missiles. It also can carry anti-radar missiles like HARM. These missiles follow the Radar signal from a missile battery and destroy the Radar and make the system blind. The extra guys are for the Jamming equipment and radar counter measures.
