I just recently bought a gateway tablet PC with MS office basic 2003 pre- installed on it, but I wanted to usr the CD it came with to install it on my home PC. I was trying to find out if I can do that or not.

Wont hurt to try, I don't think that office 03 does a validation check, but if it asks to run some updates dont let it.

The only version of Office that can be installed on multiple PCs is Office Student Teacher (or Office Home and student, as it is called in Office 2007). That version can be installed on up to three PCs, but the caveat is that it can only be used for noncommercial purposed. Per Microsoft's EULA, that means that Charities and nonprofits can't use Student-Teacher either.

Office Basic has the same licensing structure as Office Standard/Professional/Small business - it may only be installed on one computer.

Take a look at your EULA (end user license agreement) this is the acceptance page you have to agree to in order to load the software. I think that you will find that Microsoft will only allow you to load 1 copy on any computer Ex the copy that is on your laptop. But do not fear I have stopped using MS office for this very reason. Check out Star office. It is almost as good And is free.

Install OpenOffice. This is a free, up to date office suite that is compatible with MS and other office suites.
