One suggestion and one caution: Suggestion - petfinders.com can help you find shelters with dogs (often puppies) to adopt, and you won't spend more than $300 usually for the adoption fee and spay/neuter. Rescuing dogs builds good karma.

Caution: If money is likely to remain an issue, think hard about getting a dog. Yearly immunizations and vet care, food, dogsitters if you need them, etc, do all add up. Most of the lab breeds should also be carefully examined while young to see if they're headed for problems with hip dysplasia, which can be VERY expensive to fix surgically. Just throwing that in there for your consideration. Good luck.

I just rescued a Golden/Sibe bit ch. She's a real sweetie. You would have to pass a home check. You would also have your finances looked at to make sure that you can afford a dog (meaning in the case of an emergency so I don't have to rehabilitate her again should you neglect her). If your interested we are in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and she is being homevetted in Post Falls. Contact me with where you are located and I may put you in touch with the people keeping her.

http://www.petfinder.com/ you can find dogs in rescue groups or shelters near you. They often have puppies and young dogs available and the adoption fees are cheaper than buying one from a breeder, plus, you save a life!
