i'm going from personal experience here:
its possible to think and stay in the present moment as long as you ignore the person that might be talking.
but i think that its hard to hold a conversation when in a room with the tv on.

No - thinking is not always about conjuring up past ideas and images. Thinking can be about theorizing, noticing, forecasting, brainstorming - even telling a new person and old story can be a brand new experience and perfectly in the moment. A conversation can be enlightening, informative, even unexpected - also perfectly in the moment. I recently had a conversation with an old highschool boyfriend about how and why we started dating in the first place and I think it changed each of our perspective, like an epiphany about an old thing. Hard to get more in the now than with an epiphany, I say.
Peace!

The only way would be to think of nothing but the present moment and nothing else for that moment in time.
Oh it just doesn't sound very exciting however!

If you're talking about Nirvana and enlightenment in the Buddhist sense then it isn't being present that is important but being mindful of the true nature of all existence, which buddhists believe is suffering.

I think it depends on the level of thought... If you are immersed in your thoughts so much that the present is a blur to you then I'd say you are in the past, but if you are thinking and you still can observe the world around you then you are still in the present. But it's all point of view isn't it? You never know...

Well, the fact that they would be engaged in a conversation in the moment... would mean that they pretty much are in the moment. But I see your point. Anytime one is thinking they are, in a sense, conjuring up past memories that they have acquired and things that they have learned in the past, etc. etc. So, I suppose you do have a point.

I think that you can obtain thinking and stay in the present, and past and future.
You can meditate and become enlightened and experiance many wonderful things past, present, future, and even obtain Nirvana.
Namaste.

I always thought anticpation of something good in the future makes your present day and ruins it when it comes to past.

You are not wrong. This is practically impossible. I did it once for a few seconds, it was remarkable. I don't believe anyone who would say they are able to do this as a matter of course.
