Hi -
Here are the steps to re-install windows (re-format)
1. You need your Windows disc. If you don't have it, you will need to buy a new package. It gets a little spendy, though. Along with your disc, you need your product registration key. If you don't have it, you can't get by it, and you will have to either pay for another one, or buy a new windows package.
2. Once you have both of those, pop in you windows disc, into your disc drive. Make sure you have saved everything you want to keep before continuing.
3. Once your computer boots up, it will say something like "press any key to boot from disc"
4. Press any key. A menu will come up asking you what you want to do. Now, I may be a little off, because I don't know what version of windows you are using. You should choose the option that says something like "boot from partitions" or "format". Once you open it up, it will go to a blue screen, and at the bottom it will load a bunch of stuff.
5. You will then get to a screen with the listed partitions. What you will want to do, is delete the partitions. Windows will easily guide you through this.
6. After you delete the partitions, you will want to install windows on the new partition space, that has nothing on it.
7. Windows will start to install. The process can take up to 2 hours.
8. You will need to activate your windows within 30 days. If you have trouble, call the number it gives you, and they will give you a free activation code. I just did it, so I can verify that. Activation code is different from product registration code!
9. Also, before you install windows, and go through these steps, you will need drivers. They are located on a cd. You need these drivers to connect to the internet.
Usually windows has these, but sometimes a third party will have these drivers, and you can use them. The drivers tell your computer how to use your tools, such as internet, sound, etc. etc.
If you use dial up internet access, you wont need these.
Also, feel free to look up on google.com, and search in quotations "re-formatting computer" and after the quotations, put in the operating system you are trying to re-install.
example
"re-formatting computer" windows xp home edition
I wish you luck!

Well, its much easier to understand if people type in proper English.
It depends on what's wrong with your Operating System (OS)..If it simply doesn't boot, then it may be your OS, but it could be other hardware malfunctions. The best way to find out is reinstalling windows.
most recent computers do not come with the reinstallation cd/dvd, but if you have it, great. simply pop it in your cd drive and start up your computer.
follow the instructions on the screen, and overwrite any exiting data/partitions your hard drive may have.
after this is through, you should visit your computer manufacturer's website to download the drivers specific to your machine (ie., sound card, wireless/ethernet adapters, etc)
hope this helps

Disconnect your computer from the Internet
Put the Install disk into your DVD/CD drive.
READ THE SCREEN as the install progress!
It will allow you to delete all partitions! Do that; DELETE all PARTITIONS, make a 25GB partition for XP, and format it into NTFS!
Be sure to install your motherboard drivers and utilities from the motherboard CD.
Then install all software and devices, Firewall and anti virus last.
Back-up your system to DVD before going on line.
Connect Internet, go to www.Microsoft.com update and let that site update your system.
Download and install media player version 11.
Also, get the latest version of direct-X for XP.
Visit the sites for your hardware/soft ware and download any XP upgrades for your system.
Back up your system to a DVD before starting to use it.

i"m guessing from your question that you are not computer savvy, so I would suggest you take it to a computer shop, and let them do it for you. I think it takes about three or four hours.
