It should be alright to give him a few licks of water. If you are concerned about him eliminating on your bed, you might want to consider training him to puppy pads for whenever you are gone(I'm assuming kennel training and training him to his own bedroom are out of the question).
My dogs were trained to pads until 6 months of age (until they could "hold it"), then trained to go outside, but I keep the pads out when I am gone and at night and I have never had a problem. When I am home they want to go out, when I am gone they go on the pads.

There is No Harm in Picking up the Dogs Watr Bowl after he Pees the Last Time Out for the Nite. Start him Young adn He Will Learn at an Early Age. Believe Me you and the Dog will Both Be greatful, expecially if you dont want to Jump out of Bed Early in the Morning or Suffer the Wetting Problem.

take the water dish up and take him out 1/2 hour 45 minutes before bedtime. He'll be OK during the night. Got one of those pup mats for your bed? Just to be safe there!

Good advice from nemsethcs...
I would only add that what you *could* do is put a little ice in his bowl in the evening. He will able to lick at it to quench his thirst but he won't be able to ingest a lot all at once.
If you are housetraining and this is a young pup, many people get up once (or twice!) in the middle of the night with their pups to let them out. They set a schedule, rather than waiting for their puppies to whine. Physiologically, your puppy should be able to "hold it" approximately one hour for every month of his age, so keep that in mind.

You should take him out right before bed to potty, but keeping water from him is a bad choice as he will come to see it as a punishment or reward and may get posessive of it. Instead I would suggest getting a small crate with the puppies bed inside it to put in your room. This will help with a couple of things 1 Dogs won't eliminate in their own bed so locking him in it at night will result in him seeing the crate as his bed, once he gets older and better house trained this can easilly extend to your entire bedroom. 2 If he's locked in he will tell you if he REALLY needs to go by whining, THIS IS A GOOD THING if he starts to recognise when he has to go, and associates that if he "tells" you he needs to go out with you rewarding the behaviour by taking him out and giving him a treat after he goes, he will start to tell you whenever he has to go out wich will help with day time accidents as well.

He should have access to water all day, then remove his water one hour before bedtime. If he is thirsty tonight let him drink. Take him potty in a half an hour.

I wouldn't suggest it for a puppy, maybe for a completely house trained dog
