I'm a 19 year old man, (getting ready to turn 20). I date a woman who recently turned 23(doesn't drink, which is awesome for me, don't have to take her to bars). No one thinks we're a strange couple, or taboo because well, I look (as told by others) like I'm 25-27, while she looks like she's 18-20 max. I know both our parents approve of our relationship (a little too much). But what strikes me as strange, is how my 21 year old sister got so much flak for dating a 25 year old when she was 20. Now, I know girls have more to worry about with guys, and an older man just seems like more chance for trouble, but the double standard is nonetheless striking. Ironically, she is now dating an 18 year old, which my parents are cool with (not that they really have a say in who we date anyway since A: we're adults, and B. we both live away from home) Anyways, any thoughts, comments, concerns?

Totally agree with the rape point. The only really legally defined rape a women can technically commit against a man is if he's underage. Even then, we've seen how that works out.

Plus, I already mentioned the double standard, just asking what you guys think of it. Is it crap, should people be more opened minded, or are parents right to want their daughter to either date a younger guy, or a guy around their age by 1 or 2 years?

To add to my last point, it seems that men are actually encouraged to date older women, seems like its considered an accomplishment of some kind.

it does not depend on the age to be able to minggle with other people, maybe they or you are at ease when you go with them than people your age

yeah the double standard sucks. im 21 now and have been with my bf for 4 yrs now when we first got together i was 17 and he was 21. my mom hated it. she called him a cradle robber because of our age difference. which doesnt sound like an abnormal parent thing to do. but heres the catch at this time my mother was 41 her bf was only 23 and she was yelling at me over age difference! my mother still hates my bf and that will never change. but at least when she brings it up now i get to throw it in her face that we worked out and they didnt.

Maybe it's because your a guy, even though I'm fourteen I know my dad doesn't care much about who I date. He cares more about my sister. Maybe because there are much more concerns with the females than the males. Were able to defend ourselves, let alone that it's almost impossible for a woman to rape us. Where as for a girl its much more different.
