why if they obviously don't want you? if they did, they wouldn't have left.

Your question is a bit difficult, I mean if your ex doesn't want you anymore, then there is nothing that you can do hun. Cause you can't oblige someone to love you. Love comes naturally. So if you are talking about yourself, then I suggest to stop trying to find the answer to your question and move on with your life and try to find someone else to be your b/f. Cause if you try to answer this question you will end up living your life in a frustrated way believe me dear.
I'm saying so cause I tried to do the same thing but the harder I tried the more difficult it turned out to be and the distance between me and my ex increased to the point that she didn't want to see me anymore not even as a friend hun.

It depends on the circumstances surrounding the question "Why is this person not still in said relationship?" And perhaps they are not in this relationship for a reason, maybe they do not want to be.
