Mech engg are good in Maths and analytical skills, which is very imp for programming, Secondly Lot od demand of manpower in software industry
Good pay packages and esay to get into...
So don't wait..... Join IT industry

The first and foremost I can think of is the money.. it is a lot easier to get into big bucks in the software route.

Another reason though less is that the requirement also exists in s/w areas for ppl with functional knowledge where a mech. engg could contribute more effectively.

And then theres the lure of reaching the American shores which is much easier thru the s/w route.

One of the following:

1) Late realization of choosing a wrong field when joining the engineering program.

2) Money

3) Too dumb to accomplish something in Mechanical field.

4) Sheep mentality - "Everyone is a computer programmer, so I should also be one".
