Today, it was a complete surprise to NBC of the overwhelming positive response they received to this morning's poll:

Do you believe in God?

NBC this morning had a poll on this question. They had the highest number of responses to any poll to date, and the percentage was as follows:

86% of Americans responded in favor to keep the words, "IN God We Trust" on the U.S. monetary currency, and "God" in the Pledge of Allegiance, and ONLY a mere 14% of Americans polled were against these issues.

That is a pretty 'commanding' public response.

Why should the majority 86% of Americans in favor have to abondon their stand and cater to the desires of the minority 14% of Americans, since majority rules?

because no one is standing up, we just all sit back and look at one another and ask "are you just gonna take that" ---all this ridiculous junk about being politically correct, and taking rights away one after another is out of control. we need to stand up for rights that we believe in! now i say this to you as i "sit" and type..... go figure....

That's a pretty commanding response of NBC's market share, wouldn't you say? What those numbers tell you is that most people who were watching the show believe in God and want to keep those words. What percentage of America watches that show? 300,000,000 Americans, right? - what do you think the viewership for that show? Do you think more people voted in this poll than in the last election? Did the poll ask which god?

NBC and MSNBC have come under attack as a biased conservative news source. I don't think this little poll means anything, and I am sure that the government is not legally able to take this poll as representing America.

Peace!

Uh, take statistics, dumbo. There is a ton of bias in this sample. A. They probably contacted only those with houses; the poorer would probably be more likely to be atheist. B. It could have been simple chance for such a high percentage to be record. C. This poll was NOT replicated, a must in statistics. D. There could have been response bias, meaning that the question was worded awkwardly. E. People may have lied about their belief or lack thereof so as to conform and thus avoid ostracism.

Huh? "Do you believe in God?" and "Should we remove the word God from our currency and the Pledge?" are two very different questions. A stat I heard last week stated that 76% of Americans consider themselves Christian. That doesn't mean that even 10% attend church or pray regularly, though. Many of those people will answer "Christian" because they don't want to answer as "Athiest", "Agnostic", or other labels that they may not feel comfortable wearing. I really hope God is not removed from our Pledge and currency, or anywhere else.

Let's not get to comfortable in this poll and desert our station. This was merely a poll. We should not say that because we have 86%, there is no need to continue evangelizing. This 86% does not give an account for those who were at work, who cannot afford computers, etc. And to be honest with you, if we were the 14%, I would still not abandon my stand. May God Bless U.

It's not that 86% believe in god, it's that 86% are against religious freedom. These are, for the most part, the "loving" christians.

Where did you get the "majority rules"?

Freedom is a right, not a privilege.

The real question is of the 86% of the people who say they believe in God, who can answer correctly question simple questions like "What are the 10 commandments?" or "How many wise men were there?" or "Who was Cain and Abel?"

If NBC is shocked over 86% of Americans believing in God, then it is because those calling the shots at NBC must be atheists. Like it or not, the media tries to determine what is correct for us.

I agree 100% with you on this !

The thing we have to do is stick together and stand up for what we believe in.

That's where they get us. Most people don't agree with taking God out of things, but they wont stand up for what they believe in.

If we were to all stick together on this then we wouldn't be having this problem.

Now the question is "how do we get everyone to stand up for what they believe in " ?

God Bless & lets all stand together !
I gave you a star for this question.

86% of the people POLLED. I think they probably had a hard time interviewing every single person in America. But you know what? I don't give a rats patootie if it's on there or not? I think most atheists have bigger things going on in their lives to worry about that crap. So....what do you think of your little majority now? Hmmmm....???
