My son is 7wks old, and I was wondering if the shape of his head will fill out with time? I don't know if it's the way he's lying, he likes to lay turn his head to his left, so that side is flatter than the right side. Is 7wks a long enough time for this to happen? Or is that the shape his head will stay? I try to give him tummy time but at this young age after a minute he gets fussy in that position. I don't want him to have a funny head like that!!! Any suggestions or advice? Thanks

Don't worry. He will move his head soon enough. He will be just fine.

I would not advise laying a 7 week old infant on his stomach unless they are awake and you are supervising him the entire time...it is good for babies, but can also be dangerous. Having babies sleep on their backs rather than their tummies seriously reduces the risk of SIDS.

A lot of babies get "flathead" because of the softness of their skulls, and a little bit of flatness will go away with time once they are up crawling around. If it's getting seriously flat, try putting them in different areas of the crib or bassinet (like putting their head at the foot of the bed, head of the bed alternately), using a soft towel to prop them up if necessary. Brightly colored toys, or being put facing the room of people can help them want to stay in the position you put them in.

Another reason is because babies spend so much time in the bassinet, crib, stroller, etc...make sure they are never in these things for longer than a few hours at a time (a few hours being the most, like at night).

And remember, if you are really concerned, it never hurts to talk to your doctor.

It should round out just fine, he is still very very young, you have time to change routines and get his head even.

One thing that has increased in frequency is the flat head though, since SIDS became such a huge thing and back sleeping was recommended.

If you are really worried talk to your doctor about special helmets and gel pillows that are made specifically for shaping a baby's head.

You can try lying him in is crib with his head at the opposite end of how you usually lay him. Also, encourage him to look to his right by always placing yourself on his right side or offering something new and different to look at - to his right.

In addition to short tummy-times, when he awake and alert - use a wedge or rolled up blanket to prop him up on his side facing to his right.

Extremely rare is a condition called positional plagiocephaly -which is a severely misshaped head. It can usually be corrected by a special pressure helmet which slowly molds the head back into shape.

make an appoitment with the doctor or you can call and ask them. but i think is better if you baby gets checked. cause i don't think it's takes a little bit of time to flatten one side of his head
