Why do single mothers get blamed for all the ills of society?Why do we put up with that blame?

People stereotype and they think all single mothers will end up on food stamps and welfare, but they don't realize that a lot of us single mothers work 2 jobs to make ends meat and never end up asking for help. I love my children and would do anything for them but I refuse to get state aid, like a lot of two parent families do to get them the things they need or want. My children never go without what they need maybe what they want, but they seem to understand that you have to work for things in life they really want. I completely understand what you say about us getting blamed for everything, but in my opinion we are not the ones screwing up the world.

People have to blame somebody so they pick on single mothers. Having said that they pick on the Police, the teachers and everyone but themselves. They pick on absent fathers as well. I am one of them and due to having the ex wife from hell have not seen my two girls for 5 years. I send them letters every month that I have no idea if they receive, xmas and birthday presents and money at easter. I am one of the few who pays child support and I ran up a solicitors bill of £16,500 trying to see my children. I also suffer depression pretty badly due to the circumstances and am unable to work. So some call me a scrounger because of that and others accuse me of being mad due to the depression. Before I became ill I was a Police officer for 28 years and according to people everything we did was wrong.

Don't worry the world is full of people who think they are perfect and blame everybody and everything else for the ills of society. You have done nothing wrong being a single mum so don't let people upset you. I have stopped watching the news as it is all doom and gloom and people are always looking for someone else to blame. All you can do is your bestand be proud of it and ignore the critiscism. Most of it comes from narrow minded bigots who could not bring up children alone like you do or somehow get through what I have had to endure since 2000. Keep on doing what you are doing and let people pick on someone else. There are too many people in this country (UK)who are lost in their own self importance. Just keep on smiling and being a good mum.

Usually single mothers were irresponsible and got pregnant as a teenager before completing their education. They typically do not consider the best interests of the child. Due to the fact that most of them have extremely limited financial resources and are unable to give the child their undivided attention, I believe that the majority of single mothers are not giving their children a comfortable upbringing that he or she rightfully deserves. These girls do not even consider giving their child up for adoption despite the fact that they cannot afford to support the child financially.

Single mothers need to go to school and the babysitter arguement isn't valid since they can now obtain their degree online. Fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and they can get break on college costs through grants, scholarships, and very low interest loans. They cannot argue about work too much either, since low-income housing is available and student loans can compensate for a limited income.

So to sum it all up, for the most part single mothers do not cater to the best interests of the child and they do not bother to get a college education.

Hi Jamie,

A college (I think that it was Cambridge) did some kind of research on single mothers and found all sorts of interesting facts. The majority of single mothers live below the poverty line, are less likely to find a man who can financially take care of her and her children and are more susceptible to depression.

I wish that I could find the source. It was some pretty scary stuff.

I would love to really answer this but don't have 2 hours, or enough space to write about it. So I will try to keep it short. women will dump the man/husband/baby daddy and ***** about not getting enough money from him, stop him from seeing his child, and say "he never see the child" they will date guys they know they shouldn't date, let only have a round a child, they get mad if we have a g/f or new wife. If we dump them, its worse. Kids need 2 parents, and have problems if they don't. It is only getting worse.
