This might sound weird but I am realizing that with greed, lust, and craving in general, it causes a person to draw things to himself. The faster and more intense a person draws to himself the more the mind caves in on itself and starts eating itself alive. The spiritual self eating will never stop and just keep getting stronger and hungrier. I don't mean this literally but in a metaphorical way. Is that what hell is, when the mind is eating itself forever? So I guess no one punishes you, you are doing it to yourself.

BTW I am Buddhist and meditation is starting to reveal these things.

Wow, so in a way you are what you eat. You eat and drink, breate, and injest all these chemicals, and toxins, poisions into your body on a daily basis, some without even thinking. You begin to crave it, like sugars and caffeins, and all the "good" stuff, then you need it, and all it is doing to you is destroying you, hence you are destroying yourself.
I have been studdying Budhism for a few months, solo, and love some info, and insight, contact me please. I'm lost and don't know where to go for info.

Im sure the individual brings on their own demise in some way. As far as hell it may just be a word for negativity since it was written before people were literate. Take a break and get out and meet people.

What you're describing is symbolic retribution, where the sinner is punished in hell for all eternity by having to endure a punishment relating to the sin that they committed in life. Many religions believe in it. Dante's Inferno, a medieval christian work, does an excellent job of describing it in a christian form.

Is this because Gautama didn't eat that much during meditation? No, no one is punishing anybody. It's deal or no deal, that's all.
