Canon generally has the best picture quality but Nikon usually surpasses Canon in the SLR lines as you spend more on a camera. Canon and Nikon are pretty much neck and neck with imagine quailty but if you want JPEG format, then Canon beats out Nikon. Olympus does not have the best imagine quality compared to Canon and Nikon, but their comsumer models are rugged and you can take pictures underwater with some of their cameras with no underwater housing.

If your looking for a camera for imagine quality, Nikon or Canon is your choice.

There is no specific answer. There is certainly more than one company at the top. Look at the professionals. They use a few brands. It will also vary based on the type of camera in that some vendors makes excellent products for specific markets. SLR, box, etc. Most people who know their stuff concerning SLR cameras will tell you that you should focus on the lens. That you will change the camera but you likely do not want to have to switch lens each time you change the body. Hence you buy into a family. If you go with Canon then you can trade the bodies but still use the lens. The same with Nikon. Note the other post about Nikon lens. I have Nikon. I have had non SLR Canons. For SLRs I prefer Nikon but it could be the difference between a Ford and Chevy (personal bias but not always a clear reason why). Glass in the lens might be one reason but I did not know that when I picked Nikon 20 years ago.

Canon is probably the most respected camera brand out their. nikon isnt bad either though. If price is a problem than I would go with a sony(nikon). Their is a sony cybershot on the market right now that is going for 149.99 so thats a great deal. Olympus is known for having a high pixel average. I walked into a target the other day and they had a tiny little olympus that had 8.0 mega pixels and thats a lot. But I mean if you arnt planning on blowing your pictures up to a bigger size then you dont really need an Olympus. So if you want the best of the best go with the canon the SD600 or SD630 are the best. Cybershots are really good as well they are made by sony. Sony is nikon as well.

In my own experience, i believe that canon and nikon are great camera make. They each produce great good picture quality. From beginners cameras to Pro cameras...they have a great range of camera ranges...and they are indeed very value for money.

Olympus PnS serieshowever...is a waste of time...
if u want to consider Olympus i rather u go for their DSLR
ranges. As they Pns series does nt offer a value for money compact which give good picture quality.

Do some research ,I wouldn't be asking people on this site bcause they don't know what they are talking about, Sony does not make Nikon cameras, and because johnp says that he a Pro does that make it true?
