Nikon and Canon are neck and neck, each trying to outdo the other. For quality pictures, the LENS is the most important.
As a Nikon owner I think they are fantastic, but in all honesty you'd be happy with either brand once you get to the top level models.

There is no specific answer. There is certainly more than one company at the top. Look at the professionals. They use a few brands. It will also vary based on the type of camera in that some vendors makes excellent products for specific markets. SLR, box, etc.
Most people who know their stuff concerning SLR cameras will tell you that you should focus on the lens. That you will change the camera but you likely do not want to have to switch lens each time you change the body. Hence you buy into a family. If you go with Canon then you can trade the bodies but still use the lens. The same with Nikon.
Note the other post about Nikon lens.
I have Nikon. I have had non SLR Canons. For SLRs I prefer Nikon but it could be the difference between a Ford and Chevy (personal bias but not always a clear reason why). Glass in the lens might be one reason but I did not know that when I picked Nikon 20 years ago.

Nikon. They are one of the last companies that still use glass lenses. They are ground SO well that you don't get any distortion around the edges. The others use coated lenses.
A Nikon F-6 35MM SLR camera body will set you back about $1900. Then you have to buy a lense or two.
Nikon has the broadest line of lenses and filters as well. In the 35MM format, you can't find a finer camera.
You can also get a digital back for the F6 to take digital, rather than film, pictures.
If you just want GOOD quality, any of the cameras you listed will do.

My camera is the Kodak P-850 digital. It is fine for almost everything I want to use it for and it has the best software and is easy to use even the manual features.
Now that I've said all that if you want a good quality camera without having to put a second mortgage on the house your best buy is the Cannon rebel digital camera............

I personally have a Kodak I bought it bc its #1 in ease of use. But, as far as picture quality goes I have three friends who have Cannons and I'd say they are better hands down.

I like my Kodak.
They've been around for a hundred years and know pretty well what they're doing.
