Under certain circumstances, you can get your record expunged. The criteria varies from state to state. Normally, it only applies to simple misdemeanors, you've adhered to all the legal requirements of the case (completed probation, made restitution, etc.), and have had no further contact with law enforcement. Check with the city or court clerk where your case was handled.
Once your record is expunged, nothing will show up under a general background check, but law enforcement will be able to see it. It counts as a prior for future criminal cases.

your criminal record will NOT follow you for the rest of your life. If you have the money you can hire a lawyer to have certain things expunged from your record. Thats if you havent done anything else illegal since then. Once expunged its like it never happened! Talk to a lawyer for details.
