Okay so I'm getting the Mini Pini/ Pom mix and my fiance' thinks that Mini Pini's are bad, agressive dogs. All because he knew someone when he was younger who had to have their Mini Pini put down because it bit to many people. I tried to tell him that it all depends on how they're raised. But he just wont listen. Is there anyone who can help me change his mind?

There are no bad dogs (just as there are no bad babies) - only bad owners...It's all in their raising and handling - A puppy given love and training will love and behave in return. Good luck. Have him talk to a professional dog trainer - they'll say the same thing.

My mother bred dogs -- not mini/pini's, but small, toy-breed dogs none-the-less, so I do know a little about them. A good portion of their agressiveness DOES have to do with how they are raised, however there is a certain amount of genetics that come into play as well. Toy-breed dogs tend to by yippier and nippier than larger dogs because they feel threatened by so many things because so many things are bigger than they are. No one can guarantee to you that your dog won't be aggressive under any circumstances.

I have a Min Pin & she's not really aggressive. She likes to play a lot so she'll randomly pounce on your foot or start barking & jumping around playfully. She's usually not aggressive when it comes to most things. She DOES tend; however, to randomly start barking when people come home sometimes.

What your fiance thinks is false though. Because you can't stereotype anyone or anything. It's wrong & unfair. But Min Pins do have the title, "King of the Toys". Because they think that they are bigger than they really are. They are usually very lovable pets though.

Enjoy your animal! Love it well!

I'm not sure if it really matters what MinPins are like since what you are looking at is a cross-breed. Although in defense of MinPins, I know one that lives by the grooming shop I work at, and this little guy is the sweetest thing, he will literally try to drag his mom over to see me whenever I'm outside while they are taking their walks. He has gotten to the point now that even if I'm not outside he will pull his mom over to the grooming shop to come in and see me. They are alot of dog in a little package, fun, always happy-go-lucky little guys, and love to either be playing or just plain curling up in bed with you. Remind your boyfriend that each and every dog is different, they all have different personalities and what one dog in a breed might be like is not always true of others of that breed. Good luck.

Miniature Pinschers can be nippy little things but they are fine dogs if trained properly. Sorry to say this but just so you know it's how I feel. If someone is that set about your best friend, how do you think they will behave about other things? Take that ring off and throw if off a ledge, then hope he jumps after it. Like I said, you probably wouldn't like it but that's the way I believe.

Have him watch some cable shows on dog training, like The Dog Whisperer. There are no bad dogs. Just underequipped people.

No, no suggestions on getting him to change his mind.

Marriage is about compromise, not about trying to make the other person do whatever you want. I suggest finding a different breed of dog that you will BOTH be happy with.

Convince him by showing him as the puppy grows. Be sure that you well socialize the puppy with adults, children and other dogs regularly. A well socialized dog is a great thing!

Get him to watch The Dog Whisperer and he'll see that it doesn't matter which breed but how they are treated and raised.

I dont have any idea of how to change his mind, but tell him that even pit bulls are friendly!!!
It makes me sick when people judge a dog by the breed... you have to know each individual dog, not just the name.
