First do nothing, if they think they have it does not mean they have it. They could have a metal problem causing it for instance stress will do it, a loss of someone important to them could do it as well. There are many other things that could cause it, including not eating right or eating when they need to think, also a stomach disorder could cause the digestive system not to work and cause you to be low on vitamins so the best thing to do Is SE A DOCTOR, don't try to diagnose yourself also tell then to see a therapist. It does not hurt, it might help them sort out them problem, never diagnose a medical condition without seeing a doctor but also be sure to give them all the evidence so they can make an accurate diagnosis

I work in a mental health agency, and doctors do prescribe Prozac for ADD and ADHD.

Your friend can't know for certain if he has ADD/ADHD unless it's diagnosed by a doctor. The actual testing might be done by a psychologist.

I have been taking medication for depression for twenty years, it's not that big of a deal.

A doctor shouldn't give Prozac for ADD. Usually, they prescribe a stimulant. In a person with ADD or ADHD, the stimulant has the opposite affect on them as it would in a person without the disorder. This is due to the chemical imbalance in the brain of the person with the disorder. They lack the stimulate chemicals in the brain, and the stimulant meds replace them. With someone who does not have the disorder, it simply winds them up.

If they don't want to take meds, how 'bout trying natural stimulants (coffee, coke, tea) or alternative medicine, acupuncture, which could help to release the chemical needed.

Find a doctor who is aware of food/chemical allergy, or ask your doctor to do a RAST test, and if his office doesn't do it, ask him to refer you. Food allergy/sensitivity can get rid of your brain. If you can learn what's causing the problem, much better to avoid it than try to control the symptoms. Meanwhile, two Actifed should give you a brain, takes about 20-30 minutes.
Google Theron Randolph, MD and find one of his books. Fascinating reading, a lot of case histories.
