The definition of gay is:
1 a : happily excited : MERRY b : keenly alive and exuberant : having or inducing high spirits
2 a : BRIGHT, LIVELY b : brilliant in color
3 : given to social pleasures; also : LICENTIOUS
All of these are stereotypes of homosexuals. My question is: Why does the homosexual community define themselves as gay? And does this hurt the homosexual community?
Who decided "gay" was good? Why not ******? The definition of ****** is: 1. A bundle of twigs, sticks, or branches bound together.
2. A bundle of pieces of iron or steel to be welded or hammered into bars.
The term "******" comes from the times when homosexuals were burned like a bundle of twigs.
How is this any worse than "gay”?
Why not fairy?
I would really like some constructive feedback from both homosexuals and heterosexuals (not straights because that implies that homosexuals are crooked).
Do the labels we give ourselves affect how people perceive us?
And is Homosexual better

I'm disappointed. There were no good arguments on either side. My point in doing this was to have a debate. I have my opinion of the subject, but I was looking for a constructive debate in which I could learn something new which would either change my thinking or change my argument.

That's alot of questions. Most words used to describe a homosexual have come about because of lingo or code words to describe someone as being gay without giving it away. They probably just stuck after a few years and the word "gay" isn't used as much to describe being happy or carefree.
The other words like fairy aren't used because they are derrogatory. No gay person flutters about in a little dress with sparkles & wings and a fairy is usually a girl which is meant to slam a gay man in the vain that's he's feminine or not manly enough.
I'm sure labels do cause people to judge us without knowing us. That's their purpose. It's up to each one of us to get to know a person instead of judging based on appearance, race or sexual preference.
Anyhow, I know plenty of gay guys who don't mind those words as long as they're used in good fun and not meant to hurt them. Some even use the words themselves. Doing that takes the power away from people who use them to be mean & hurtful.

Homosexuality is not an alternative life-style acceptable to God. Frequently, both gay and liberal preachers twist the scriptures in futile endeavors to make it seem that it is. (2 Peter 3:16) Thousands of years ago Jehovah destroyed Sodom because most of the males of that city practiced it. Centuries later the apostle Peter likened men who copied those Sodomites to “unreasoning animals born naturally to be caught and destroyed.” .
In unmistakable language, both male homosexuality and lesbianism are condemned by the inspired apostle Paul: “God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error.” Romans 1:26, 27.
Paul specifically mentioned those who evidently take on a passive sexual role and those who assume a more active “male” role in their immoral relations. Thus he made it plain that God disapproves of all homosexual acts.
Paul is saying that anyone that is "homosexual, or & adulterers, nor effeminate "having unsuitable feminine qualities" nor abusers" so he is not just referring to homosexuals but to all above, these cannot be approved of God or receive any blessings from the Kingdom that Jesus talked about when he was on the earth.

I think the labels we give ourselves definitely affect how we're perceived by others. But others shouldn't be so judgemental -- just in general I mean.
I think what hurts the homosexual community is the same thing that hurts any group that's different (gays, goths, cross dressers, minorities, etc.): they don't fit into that mould that society tends to want people to fit into . Geez, when that happens, the judgement begins.... all the moral self-righteousness.
I have my own opinion about homosexuality, but how one person lives his his life is his business, not mine or anyone else's unless it brings harm to me or that particular individual.
Whether someone is referred to as gay or homosexual (or something else) is only wrong if the person being referred to in that manner is offended by it.

Personally, I see gay behaviour as unnatural. Human bodies have been created for certain sexual behaviours. All other are unnatural and I think a kind of diversion from the simplicity.
Even if you think of giving birth to a child, and maitaining the human race, gay behaviour is not useful.

Political correctness is completely arbitrary. There is no rhyme or reason to it. For example, the term ***** is not offensive in its origins, but for some unknown reason, some unknown person decided that it was an offensive term for blacks, and so now it is considered rude to call blacks negroes.
