Guys are suppose to ask you. IF you ask him, you would seem too desperate.
But you can always go around him with one of your friends and hold a conversation and you friend should just suggest that you two should go to the dance together.
like "hey yall should go to the dance together"!

are you looking for specific ideas? idk what kind of dance is it? think of something clever, or just go ask him, honestly most guys dont really care whether its all pomp and circumstance or straight to the point. as far as the worrying about whether he likes you or not goes, look at it this way, you can ask him now and the worst he can say is no. you are no worse off than you are now except for a little embarassment that will wear off over the weekend or next time someone throws up on themself of something. who knows, he might like you
