I'm going to be a bridesmaid in my friends wedding in july 07. (she'll be 20 & I'll be 19) I know I have to get her a wedding present, but since I'm a bridesmaid, we grew up together, & our families are friends, do i get her something really special?? I should anyways just cuz I'm a bridesmaid right?? How much should I spend & what should I get?? I have NO idea what to do.

PS: My twin sister is also a bridesmaid in the wedding, so we're pooling our money together to get her something.

First of all check her registry. There is probably something there that the two of you can afford and the bride wants. Otherwise, if you want something really special-go with something that she likes. Make a basket of something.....hiking-basket with maps, shoes, bottles of water, etc. Or scrapbooking......a basket with scissors, paper, stickers, etc. Use your imagination and go with it. Good Luck!

Isn't the "shower" supposed to be gifts for the bride and the wedding gifts presents for the couple? The bride usually gives her bridemaids gifts for standing up for her (as does the groom to his best man). It doesn't have to be special just because you're a bridesmaid and a long time friend--can be the same kind of gifts others are giving. Many couples will register (for dishes, flatware, etc.--one couple registered with a sportings good store for a canoe, and got it! Another friend-couple registered at a big home improvement store 'cause they just bought a fixer upper house) at places so people know what they want. You might want to ask your friend if she's registered somewhere.

Since you grew up with her, you should know what she likes. Think about things that she and her fiance do. Do they like baseball games? Try opening day seats to their favorite team.
Like to bike? A map with romantic bike paths in the area.
If they are in their early 20's, they will need things for the house. A nice basket with cooking utensils (if you don't give this to them for a shower gift) or a set of NICE sheets. Look for something with a very high thread count (300 or more) These will set you back anywhere from $60 to $150 but they will thank you for it. They will last a long time if taken care of and are very soft on the skin.
An old superstition to keep in mind though, if you choose to give them knives: Give money with the knife set or you will cut the friendship. (A penny taped to the underside of the block or in the box works well)
Hope this helps.

Screw the registry. If you are this person's bridesmaid I assume you are good friends. Give her a present that shows the closeness the two of you share. Make something special that she will treasure long after the China is scratched an out of date, the linens are stained and worn out and the silver is tarnished and put away in a drawer. You are friends, give her something from the heart.

For a wedding you buy a gift for the couple - not just for the bride. You could give her a special friend's gift for her birthday or something.
Of course for her wedding, it would be nice if you could get them something special - maybe something personalized.

if you can spend 100.00 go to a fine store and buy a nice silver gift like a tea tray and have it engraved with the bride's and groom's names and the wedding date; it will be a lifetime treasure

if you know her very well think of something she could really use. i dont like going off a registry if you want to get something 'truely' special. cost is really not a factor just get what you can afford. she will be more pleased with sentiment the cost.
