There is a debate going on about wether a ping pong ball filled with bleach would blow up a car if dropped into a gas tank. Now granted, this is about old cars that didn't have the screens on the filler tube. I do not believe it would do anything and I have mixed gas with bleach and although the smell was horrendous there was no reaction. Can anyone enlighten us on this issue? So far, no one seems to have an answer. There is a rather large bet riding on this

I think I remember reading about this in the Anarchist's Cookbook or something like it. I believe their recipe was a ping-pong ball filled with liquid drano, not bleach. They also said it MUST be a Spaulding brand ping-pong ball and recommended wrapping it in several layers of electrician's tape to give you extra time to run away.

However, there is a significant problem in using this to blow up a car - have you looked at the size of the fill hole? It's nowhere near large enough to accommodate a ping-pong ball, so the point is moot.

Besides, blowing up people's cars is cruel and antisocial behaviour. Although somewhat amusing as a thought experiment, I must strongly caution you against putting any of these ideas into practice of any sort. Even mixing stuff in small quantities carries a significant risk of injury.

If by "blow up" you mean explode Then the answer is no.If you mean kill the engine then the answer might be yes.Bleach will stop the engine however I doubt that a ping pong ball would hold enough to do it.
