I have had the same problem lately for the last few months. I never thought to ask this question on YA so I'm glad you did, I'll be checking other peoples answers. My pain (a dull pain) happens mostly at night. If my legs are stretched out, I'll get a pain in one of my knees and I have to go into a fetal position and gradually the pain goes away. Later on the other leg will do the same thing and I'll just bend that one. I was thinking about getting that medication I see in that new commercial (ACTIVON) or something like that, it's the same company that repeats "apply directly to the forehead" I hope you get some good answers because I can't afford to go to a doctor who will probably say nothing is wrong. (Or is that just a guy thing?)

Because the pain is not at the knee it is probably in the quads but could be coming from your rump or back. It is called referred pain caused by muscles being tight and pressing on nerves. You will probably need a massage therapist to help get you started. For full information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies

Hey I hear your problem. I have the exact same thing sort of. I have been dealing with this since about 2000. I never thought of getting another opinion. I went to see an Ortho and he told me that my knee cap is out of alignment. I was diagnosed at first with water on the knee. the pain came and went I dealt with it. it started bothering me again about 2 months ago. then I got diagnosed with arthritis. Just happened to see a friend who had the same problem like a month ago they told me to see the ortho. I saw him and now three days a week I am going to physical therapy. trying to strengthen my knee the way it used to be. I hope that I helped you out.

I have the same thing but never had it checked. If I keep them bent in one position for a while and then straighten them out, it hurts like he**!!!! I have no pain when I push on it. it just feels like it's under the knee cap or something. Hope someone knows the answer to this because I'd like to know also. Sorry I couldn't help but at least you know you are not alone. Good-luck!

Do you have flat feet? That is what caused my knee pain (and it came on suddenly one day as I crossed the street on my way back to work from my afternoon break.) I was lucky to have a coworker drive me to the HMO office. Doctor confirmed, problem caused by fallen arches. She prescribed an orthotic and on my own, I've been taking glucasamine chondroitin. I never walk without Flexifly arch support inserts in my shoes. No more knee pain.

Bedtime cramps: Possibly mine are due to aging but I try to drink enough water (6-8 glasses/day), take calcium, get enough potassium because I sometimes get cramps while lying in bed. I noticed that mine come on when the bedroom is cold (and my legs are cold). Thanks Beth, mine is possibly arthritis (runs in my family and diagnosed years ago in other joints ).

Good luck, everyone, in finding cause of your problems.

This could be because of muscle fatigue or dehydration. Try exercising all parts of your body. It also sometimes is due to disuse atrophy. Try out some home remedies. You can also look for information in the web that give you home remedies. I found this website very useful. http://aches.in/cramps.html
